CG AUTHORS ATTN: ***advertisement***/***keenspace_alert***

At Chris's insistance, I will be modifying the ***advertisement*** tag to automatically invoke
***keenspace_alert*** below it within the next few days.

I know this will break your layouts, so there is an exception: IF you already have ***keenspace_alert*** in your indextemplate.html file, ***advertisement*** won't run it a second time.

If you don't know, ***keenspace_alert*** will carry network-wide news, such as the FCBD signups, changes in domain, changes in the TOA, availablity of CG T-Shirts, and such that we (Comic Genesis and it's parent, Keenspot Entertainment) need to get out to everyone. Most of the time though, ***keenspace_alert*** won't spew anything out at all. When we do put an alert out, it will usually be a short blurb and a link to read more, put in a small white-on-blue "CG Alert Box." I'll try to run them only for a few days (less than three) at a time.

Interesting. What are the dimensions of this alert box and/or what CSS class does it use?

I'll try to keep it about 75% of the current browser/container width, and it's all simple HTML. Best place to put it is above ***todays_comics***, but it must be "above the fold" (where your web comic should be starting anyway).

Inforcing alert tag is beneficial, I guess. I have always been wondering why this tag isn't more important. I like the way how you'll allow people to choose where to place it, if they want.

An alert has now been posted, and I've tweaked AutoKeen to only display it on your front pages, and ***keenspace_alert*** is active again. The alert (in white on blue) will show on your next update.

To answer McDuffies: Some folks have a rather tight setup. Why break it?

maybe it's just me being picky, but I'm not seeing why this should be a site requirement. It doesn't benifit your readers, because truely, they could care a less, and it doesn't benifit the server like the ad does (clicking ads, gives Keen moneys while clicking the keenalert gives them nothing)

I'm going to put it at the bottom of my page anyway, I would just like a reason on why it's required that's logical (I.E. Kelly saying "I said so" is not a logical answer, because I could care a less about what Kelly says at any given time)

Yes, this is the case in which Chris Crosby (co-owner of Keenspot Entertainment, artist behind Superosity, and one of my bosses here at K.S.E.-owned Comic Genesis) wants it, so he now has it.

This is a good idea ether way, though, for a few reasons: Some technical problems may present themselves, and I'd need to get the word out fast; We're also working on a new server to move to while we rehab Butch (but it's not going to happen anytime soon).

Chris may also hijack it and put in some promo items, but then, if you have the ***newsbox*** I can say "CHRIS, PUT IT IN THE NEWSBOX, NOT THE ALERTS!"

Ether way, I'm slowly building the alert system up, but we'll use it responsibly and sparingly.
