.... that was YOU who ddi that on /b/? that was one of the funnier things to ever happen on 4chan... i was sure it'd been the handiwork of a friend of mine who a tleast used to meet people online, and nudge and egg them on... i don't honestly know HOW he does it to be honest, but i've seen evidence of at least one broken family he convinced of the healing power of mother/daughter BDSM incest.

What bothers me most is phrases that are supposed to be funny, but aren't. Phrases where you get the "oh. Pop culture reference/meme thing. Supposed to think it's cute or clever" feeling but it's just not... It ends up more quaint than amusing.

These GGC captions are amusing, but only because I've read GGC and somewhat know the characters.

And the orly/yarly/nowai thing just totally... doesn't click with me. meme shmeme.

Now the buttsecks owl cracks me up. Just about any thing with put to that caption would. I've had that saved to my HD for a while. Every time I look at it I literally crack up laughing, out loud. Even thinking about it I get this silly grin... and chuckle.

Maybe I'm missing the point of these... Eh.

Actually, you DO get it, sort of.

See, most Meme's are only relaly funny to those who were present when they were created, or were exposed to them. Like, to draw a pop culture meme, the Aliens "Game over man!" was quite popular and overused for a long time. It clicked with people because they got the message....

Internet memes, however, are much more delicate in thier construction... because, despite how open the internet is, it's vastness prevents people from tieing into every part of it every time. Unless you're there within a few days of the time the meme gets started, you've allready lost out. Enough people will know it to use it, people will hate it already and call it overused, and you'll get blasted from both sides if you actualy ask what it means. By the time you either figure it out, or discover it's meaning, it's like having someone explain thier joke... it's just not funny.

The best meme's are things that can stand independant of the situation that spawned them, for example the Oh Really/Yeah Really thing... Everyone knows that sort of rebutle, and tied to the pic of the Owl (Owlry... Ow Rrly, Oh rly... O rly, Oh really... get it... ) it stands on it's own even if you weren't *there* when it was first crated, you can still be *in on it*... you're part of the In joke.

i'd also like to compliment Ghastly for the clever way that Kwerki is holding the pointer; i can place an image or some text over it and i don't have to trim around it. the pointer and its shadow just fall naturally over it. beautiful.

scary; i know someone who looks a hell of a lot like Kwerki. she's... well, she isn't straight, but she's not quite that bent. waha.

And actually, no, I haven't posted on 4chan in a while. When I did actually post, it was in response to some /b trashing of a Ghastly strip. So I actually had a tripcode and went with the monicker of Ghastly Disciple for a while. I recall one of the comments they mad eon Ghastly's work was that, "it wasn't drawn correctly"

Um, fucking 'tard, it's his style and he created the fucking characters. He'll draw'em as he sees fit.

I did pop into /B/ the other day when the link was posted here and did see one thing that made me laugh. Someone posted Fred Gallagher's head ontop of Spiderman's body with the caption "How do I drawed shit?" and the shrugging pose of Spiderman made me laugh.

Well, it's a forum speak that comes from most likely Something Awful or 4chan.
O RLY = Oh really? (probably said in an Ace Ventura voice)
Buttsechs/buttsecks = anal sex
long cat is long = infinity
zARDOZ SAYS DRAMA = filter for when people type in "zOMG"
SAGE = short for Sageru if I'm not mistaken, which is what is placed in email fields for posts in threads users seek to remove from the board.

Tripcode, straight from the faq:

1. Tripcodes

I wrote this a while ago but only linked to it for a short time. So for all those who missed it...

a. What are tripcodes?

Tripcodes are a unique and simple way to verify your legitimacy as a poster, while still maintaining anonymity. The tripcode script creates a unique alpha-numeric string out of a specified word (like md5), and places it after your name.

b. Why should I care?

This is the closest thing you'll get to registering on 4chan. This verifies you are indeed who you say you are, and will help weed out any potential imposters.

c. How do I use tripcodes?

Using tripcodes is very simple. When you enter your name in the "Name" field of the image board, enter your name, then an octothorpe (#), then a short word.

Example: User#password
Result: User !ozOtJW9BFA (Note: The "!" seperates the username from the tripcode, it is not part of it.)

d. Is it possible to register my name/tripcode in a database?

No, not as of now. I planned to implement this long ago however time constraints and problems have forced it back in my schedule. "It will be done when it is done".

As to what a tripfaq is: it's just another pointless thing started in /b that caught on. Very likely it's either by those who swear by anonymous posting bashing those who try to register names and try to build up an online persona/pressence on the boards or it's in response to the fact that tripcodes aren't very secure. All it takes is for someone to get the correct tripcode and they could pose as your username.

any of the chans has a simple rule to the finding of good hentai. 90% of what you find will be crap
