People here seem to have good taste in things. I'd be much obliged if I could get a reccomendation for or against the movie
Anyone here seen DOOM?

I'm interested in whether or not it's worth going to see. I've read the reviews online but, as always, they weren't very informative.

Lawks and lordy, indeed I did. I probably wouldn't have, but friends were going so...oh well. I should say that what you think of it will definately depend on whether or not you've played the games. Most of my friends who had hated it. They made some serious changes to it- not just little things, but setting-type changes. As someone who hasn't played the games, it was ok, I guess. It was mediocer-pretty-crappy sci fi that tried to be a mix of Resident Evil and Alien. Honestly, I think your money would be better spent seeing Serenity or something.

Well, at least they kept it on Mars. I have played the first and second installments (still haven't seen a computer that could actually run the third, let alone played it) and I do tend to be annoyed by movies which claim to stay true to the original concepts and then don't.

There are some things in this universe that are certain: gravity, conservation of matter, and that all video game movie adaptions are bad.avatar__007 wrote:I'm interested in whether or not it's worth going to see.
Well, I *sort of* liked Resident Evil.

The crappy part is that they made it into a whole genetic-experimentation-gone-wrong thing. Why couldn't they have done it properly and had humans open a gate to hell? I mean, is it that much of a stretch? Although Doom really had no plot to speak of anyway, so it couldn't have been "ruined" that much.
I'm waiting for the Deus Ex movie. Can't wait to see how badly they butcher that awesome game.

I wasn't actually going to say it and spoil it...but yes, that was the major change I was referring to. It's true, though, so far all Game-movie adaptations have been pretty terrible. The possible exception being the first Resident Evil, which was sort of mindless fun regardless of whether it was bad or not. I admit, though, that despite the trend I am curious about the Alice movie they'll be doing.wp wrote:The crappy part is that they made it into a whole genetic-experimentation-gone-wrong thing. Oh come on, Street Fighter was awesome.
...
I tried typing that with a straight face, but failed. Miserably.
I did enjoy the original Mortal Kombat though, honest!

Yes it is. American MaGee is also working on a remake of Wizard of Oz, if I remember correctly.
There's a Soul Calibur movie being made??? O_o Ho boy. I might just have to see that, even though I know it'll be bad. Hell, the plot in the GAMES is bad. Not to mention the hilariously atrocious voice acting. But it's so fun...
Kilik had better pwn them all. Yay verily, and he shall pwn them good.

If anything, the need to make a movie of 'Soldier of Fortune'.
That game is the classiest and most satisfyingly nasty first person shooter I've played. Shooting the bastards continuously in the kneecaps to see them jump around in pain only to do it once they stop again, and then capping them in the head...
I'm not an evil person, but shit it was fun.
I'd say make Max Payne into a movie, but both games pretty much did that perfectly anyway, so I'll just play the games again!

Peter Jakcson is going to be producing the Halo movie.
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

Well, he's going and try to exercise that power, the way I hear it. Seems he also used some of that muscle when it came time to choose a game company for the King Kong videogame, based on the upcoming movie. So I for one am hopeful.Joel Fagin wrote:Producers provide money. You want the director most of the time. On the other hand, the Alice production has me in jitters.
As for Doom itself, I knew from Day One it was going to suck.
