Again, pleased to meet you.

You ever dip a rose in liquid helium? That's spectacular when you slap it on the table....observers freak. :o I also did some experiments with superconductivity.....facinating.

3rd year.....you a college student? My aplolgies....I do this sort of thing in my garage or kitchen. While I don't have a cryostat  , I do have a couple of Dewars with Helium, nitrogen and a little bit of LOX. I do a little research......BS...I just have fun freezing stuff, and seeing how hard I can push supercooled LED's.

I immersed a 50mA ultra-bright white LED in L-Ni and was able to drive it at 2A before the temp differential shattered the capsule.....but good lord was it bright.. :o It looked almost scarey, this incredibly brilliant blue/white glow coming from this glass Dewar illuminating the vapor and everything else in the garage ..there was even a color shift as the substrate started cooking from the overcurrent. :D

Man is science fun!

your description of your "fun" activities seem to border on what would typically be used to describe the 'fun' that mad scientists have in their free time. :D

The best part is that nothing I do surprises my neighbors any more....no matter how weird or loud, or bright, or.........! The one major complainer stopped calling the cops about 10 years ago.....never did any good. :-? He finally gave up and moved. But the neighbors who have watched me grow up here......they're totally used to it.

I'll bet a number of them would replace the words "used to" with the words "entertained by". :D

it's amazing what can entertain you once you acquire the taste for them.

"Used to", "Entertained by", "Astounded by"....take your pick.....or maybe even "Numbed" :D

I think they're more astonished by the fact that I haven't cratered the house or vaped myself after all these years. And they have to believe that I know what I'm doing because not only am I still here......they're still here as well!

My apologies....I stand corrected.

I just like to have fun wreaking havoc with chemistry, electronics and physics......and my neighbors can attest to this. :o :D

I like helium, it's a noble gas.

I used to throw liquid nitrogen down the hallway - it looked like a fast moving thunderstorm 1 inch high. Really cleaned the dirt off the floor! :D

I may sometimes mix soda with my scotch (actually I prefer single malt whiskies) but I never would have thought of mixing it with gases and fish!

Yep, that's the business right across the street to the east of KAPP-TV.. pretty cool, huhh?
We have these big crows flying around all the time, too. Very "Goth". Penny would love it.
To the west is desert (think "High Plains Drifter") and Mt. Rainier in the far distance.
To the south is the "Airport" which serves primarily as a training location for military aircraft operating with the ground forces training in the desert. Beyond the airport is a low mountain ridge covered with sagebrush. Our transmitter is up there.
To the north, past our competitor KNDO-TV, is another ridge, the big building on it is a hospital.
I'm SO glad they had me install that webcam, so the entire world can witness the glory that is Yakima!!!

OK Sorry... Rant over...
Gee it wasn't that bad when I lived over there. I lived in Selah and worked in Yakima though. I do remember the wind always came up in the afternoon and blew dust all over the place. I also remember a bunch of us running the bar at the airport out of Champagne one night celebrating someone birthday or something. Of course that was a long time ago sometime in 1975-76. McCord AFB C-141 used the airport way back then too.
