The Girl from B.O.L.T.
This is my second comicgenesis title and much more traditionally superheroic when compared to Wish In One Hand. Intended as a diverting side project when Bill and I want to take a break from Grant and Phylo.
Russet Tuft is a suspiciously familiar breed of archaeologist, the kind that totes a handgun and looks good in khaki short-shorts. On the trail of her missing father she travels to Namustan, Turkey and discovers Brotherhood of Legendary Travelers and the secret of the Tower that Time Forgot.
Straight up cheesecake adventure with a smidgen of intelligence just screaming to get out. Grounded in my love of ancient history, mythology, and pulp era adventure. Part Indiana Jones, part superspy, and two very important parts Lara Croft. Some cussing and brief glimpses of skin, but nothing that would curl your mother's hair (unless her hair was already curly, of course). Recently rescued from fortunecity oblivion and brought to her new home on comicgenesis.
I know the usual rule of thumb is 20 strips, but this will be a traditional multi-panel, full page style comic. There is the original black and white intro story and the first page of the new full color adventure up for perusal, and an early character work up as a vote incentive. Updates every Monday.
Start at the beginning (where else?)

Check it out. Give a yell.

Well she might, but only if she had them properly bound/taped/wrapped/sports bra'd.Rocknjosie wrote:I couldn't get past the first comic. It's a delusional homage to Laura Croft. A girl with boobs that big wouldn't be working in a running, jumping, climbing trees sort of job. Do you have any idea how much that would hurt.

I guess my complaint then lies with comic book standards....princess wrote:They aren't that big! (by comic book standards)Rocknjosie wrote:I couldn't get past the first comic. Wow. All I had to do was go away for a few days and there are responses! I had already resigned myself to this one slipping down the board with nary a ripple. In order (I think)...
Heh. Handling.
Anyway, Girl from B.O.L.T. will be more than a TnA vehicle. Maybe not much more, but a little bit at least. We tried to give a sense of the amount of history behind the idea with the hodge podge of explorers in the first story.
Really though, it's comics. I feel the creator shouldn't be bound by realistic representation unless that's what they are going for.
We could make them bigger if that's what everyone is getting at.
I seem to remember seeing somewhere that boobs = popularity. Are the legends true?
Again, wow. Thanks to everyone who had something to say. I didn't plan on having to type this much on a quick visit to the forums.
That's why they call it a fantasy. Sorry it wasn't to your taste, Rocknjosie. Check back in sometime. Maybe later adventures will be more to your liking. My handling of the character might not be everything you would expect from a slack-jawed ape like myself, but then again, it might.Rocknjosie wrote:I couldn't get past the first comic. Thankfully, no.Rocknjosie wrote:Do you have any idea how much that would hurt.

Pretty much my thoughts on the matter as well.princess wrote:They aren't that big! (by comic book standards)

There are enough comics in the world that if you look long enough you'll find all the stuff you like and plenty of stuff you don't like in the bargain. I don't feel our comic conforms to any sort of standard. We're just making the kind of stories we like to read. Comics tend to deal in exagerations so I have to ask, without any rancor, what's so wrong about an attractively drawn female figure? Would you rather I draw her as a morbidly obese fatass?Rocknjosie wrote: I guess my complaint then lies with comic book standards....
Yeah, it was, but enough people have commented on it that we'll be taking steps to distance the characters out-of-costume visual from Lara Croft as the story progresses.yeahduff wrote:My guess is that's the point.Rocknjosie wrote:It's a delusional homage to Laura Croft.
I'll pass the compliment along to Bill. He handles most of the art chores for this comic. The Crumb quote was my idea, but obviously we're both big fans of his stuff.yeahduff wrote:I like the drawing. The Crumb quote isn't very surprising, looking at the drawing style.

Where do you find the time to do two high-quality comics?
It's very well-done, almost professional quality. I like the black and white pages better than the color ones -- the color is uninspiring, but the crosshatching in the B&W images is excellent. The story is a bit simplistic so far, but it's just started. All in all, it looks very cool.

Gah, I'm blushing.RemusShepherd wrote:Where do you find the time to do two high-quality comics?![]()
This is just something we're working on in our spare moments. The update schedule is only once a week so we can stay relatively assured of keeping on top of things. Our Sunday strip, though it updates on Mondays.
Thanks for the comments and the critique. Over time the storylines will become more complex, though I doubt we'll ever fully plumb the philosophical reaches discussed in a strip like yours. Still, hopefully there will be enough "intelligent" action to justify all the gratuity.RemusShepherd wrote: It's very well-done, almost professional quality. I'm partial to the black and white art myself, but Bill wanted to try coloring it. I think it looks a little oversaturated myself, but we're trying to make "ever onward and forward" our credo at this point. Having begun the story in color we will see it through to the end. Maybe I can toss together some pages where people can read it with the black and white art if they prefer that to the color pages.
I'm pretty giddy here. Comments from two different creators whose strips I really enjoy. I think Blackaby is great. Thanks for the compliment!blackaby wrote: This looks really great, really professional! I dig it!
