Lab Bratz

Post by Amtekoth »

Hi folks,

My web-comic, Lab Bratz, is approaching episode 30 and I'd like to invite you to check it out and possibly give me some feedback. The artist, Max Velati, and I have been having a lot of fun with this humor series, which is based loosely on my 20+ years in a research laboratory.

The first episode is here: http://labbratz.keenspace.com/d/20050305.html

Image: Professor Alan Ruby runs one of the laboratories in the series.

Thanks for your time,

More fun than you should ever have in a laboratory. We are not related to the Bratz toy line owned by MGA.

I'm sure Lego will appreciate this, since he's like a slav... er, grad student. :)

I myself haven't worked too much in a lab, but my dad is a PhD and my brother is trying to get his right now.

Very cleanly drawn, and looks like you might find it in the Sunday funnies.

I read Lab Bratz every week and I think it's really good. Just thought I'd throw that out there.

Love it.

Interesting artwork. Very stylized. I always tend to have affection for fully colored strips and while it's basic in shading etc there is a wide palate being used including certain colors that are not common. It has an almost earthy feel to it. Soft like water colors yet more vivid without being as bright and glaring as many digitally colored comics can be.

The writing is good. It's relateable even though my only lab experience was like 10 years ago in high school.

I like the size of the comic. There are a lot of people it seems wondering about size and how one can fit everything they want into a smaller size. You guys pull it off well and it makes reading it more fun because you don't have to scroll around forever.

I think the only thing I would ding you on is noncomic related and more about site design.

The overall design is cool but I'd make a couple things stand out.

You have a lot of cool characters so I'd use a couple of them and create a title image to display instead of just having the words.

I would then bring the list of site buttons right under that and I would add one of the circles that seem to seperate the links at the end after "forums." It's purely asthetic, but I think it would look cleaner.

I'd put the update every monday tag right under the link bar because where it is now, it sorta gets lost.

Lastly I would alter the black bar over the comic and make it smaller. It looks like you want to have the Lab Bratz image on there but I think as it is it's almost like I'm feeling like I'm missing something because of all the black space.

In any case . . . you probably weren't looking for crits but I figure it can't hurt to share.

Good stuff. This is the first comic I've bookmarked since I've been posting here. Granted I haven't been here long but still. Wish you guys could do one or two more a week but the real world always seems to infringe on our time doesn't it?

Wp, Fourth Floor and Castle Builder:

I'm glad you've liked the strip so far! Thanks for the comments. I'll pass them on to Max tonight.

CB: Thanks for the feedback about the site design. I used Ping Teo's template and added a few things, but you are right, it could use an upgrade. I'll look into what I can do about that over the next week or so.

By the way, the comicgenesis queue has been having issues all day and today's Lab Bratz episode seems lost in transition.

FF: I checked out your comic and thought it was very funny! I follow ctrl+alt+delete regularly and it reminded me a bit of that "tone". Keep up the strong work! Amy...wow!
