Are Too Many Vote Buttons a Bad Thing?

Post by Thunt »

I currently have two vote buttons on my site. One for TWC and one for WCL. I'm thinking of adding one for Buzz comics, but I can easily imagine readers seeing all these vote buttons and thinking "What am I supposed to do, quit my job so I have time to click all of these? Forget it, I'll click none".

Is anyone out there experienced with this sort of thing? Are three buttons too many? Does it negatively affect the amount of votes you get?

Thanks.

Dunno. I've got two. I don't know if they are used all that often, cos the one with a figure on it consistantly stays around the same mark. If there were heaps of the buggers on there I think it'd be a bit of overkill. I don't know though if it'd affect your vote count too much. It depends on whether you have voting readers as opposed to ordinary readers. I don't know that many readers use them.

I have two vote buttons, one rank button from a site that does not take vote, but never managed to have more than two of these three buttons working at the same. :P

What some sites do when they have many buttons is to put them in a separate, out of the way area of their front page. That way it doesn't "encumber" the page but those who want to vote still can do it.

I've got a bunch of vote buttons, but they're fairly neatly arranged and out of the way. The tricky part is keeping up with enough incentive art to keep people clicking on them :)

I think having several vote buttons should be OK. The logic behind this is that the readers who would vote are the readers who are already voting for another comic in one list, but might totally ignore/not know of the other half dozen or so. Having more than one lets the readers who have already used their vote in another site to still support you...and then maybe vote agan the next time.

...it made more sense in my head.

Coloring tutorial It's a little like coloring boot camp. Without the boots.

An equally good comic I read has three, with three incentives. Actually two comics fit that description. 3 is a good number.
