I'm sure by now everyone's heard of the stupid ass hurricane. It just so happens that Cathe and I had been visiting Louisiana last week (<i>insanely</i> horrible timing!! >_<) and got caught up in the evacuating. (It really sucks to have taken a week off of work to only have spent a day and a half there and then be stuck in a car for more than 24 hours driving north at 10mph... didn't even get to see anyone while we were there ;_; ) My parents and brother evacuated to northern Louisiana and are fine (my dad drove back to check up on their house and the shed and property had flooded and a bunch of trees had fallen down, but the house was fine minus some singles) and I've heard back from a lot of my family and friends (most of whom live in and around New Orleans and coastal Mississippi) though no word on their homes. Last I heard, New Orleans is underwater, everyone's power is out, the levees broke, one of the bridges across Lake Pontchartrain heading into NO has floated away, a part of the interstate has gone missing, most of the state has been closed off, martial law was declared in the city, the roof blew off the Superdome, and casinos in MS completely relocated themselves into other buildings' parking lots.

Holy cheese and rice! I just don't draw a well enough picture in my head of the damage when listening to the radio. Those pictures show just how much everything sucks.

...See? The US was dumb enough to elect Bush president and now Bob is smiting us because of it.

I'm glad your family and friends survived the storm okay, Kristy. I've been concerned/curious.

Yeah, it sucks to have your home wrecked but it beats being dead.
