My friend saw the new guy who's going to play Superman and said he looks like a wimp, unlike the original guy, whose name escapes me at the moment.

As Roymundo the magnificent would say:

What's the opposite of Christopher Walken? Christopher Reeves.

Denial is not falsification. You can't avoid a fact just because you don't like it.
"Data" is not the plural of "anecdote"

"Original" can have a very flexible definition, depending on how far back you want to go. They were making Superman serial in the 40s.

Hmm . . . you may be right, unless there's someone before him. (EDIT: Heh, there is, but only the cartoon version, looks like.) It looks like he beat out George Reeves by only a couple of years (Alyn - 1948, Reeves - 1951).

There's what he looks like for Superman Returns. Silly-looking, little girly-boy.

It looks like he's standing in the middle of a tetris game.

Pity they didn't update his costume, the way they did in the X-men. The spandex look is so... uh... actually, I don't think they'd even let him into the 80s wearing that.

OI! Superman has to have spandex! it's the law! don't f**k with the costume or you wind up with Superman Electric blue!

Image
And nobody wants that...

In my opinion, the S shield is too small, that's the only problem with this movie costume, it supposed to be the focal point of the outfit, but it gets lost in all the blue.

Edit: Okay, the belt buckle and crocodile boots in the hi res version annoy me too...

Superman always had the ugliest outfit, it's just that nobody wanted to admit it. And now look at him. RED AND BLUE, GAAAH.

It's true, Supe's costume isn't any damn good, it was just the first of its kind. But you still can't mess with it or it's not Superman.

That just looks bad. I told you the outfit wasn't working. Anyway, I think that they should have used the Superboy outfit. They could have updated the costume like they did in X-Men. I'm sure the fans wouldn't be that pissed off if they did.

The Superman movie should have been like Smallville. That would have been cool.

Why is it that Superman can work on the small screen and not the big screen? It always seems to be that way.

Superman films have a tradition of camp, together with the costume. First film was mostly thought out by Richard Lester, so it was given that it'd be sitty, campy and exagerated (though Richard Doner took over when the first one was kicked by the studio). If the costume was redesigned into something more legible, it would probably not be in the spirit of film series. Batman films were mostly all dark and ghotic, X-man films were attempt to make superheroes believeable, but Superman films were silly and goofy since the beginning.
New Superman, frankly, doesn't look very different than the old one to me. Reeves was hardly less a pantsy than this, with shoe polish on his head to make it as dark and fake as possible. :-?

You must not know anyone who's a comic book fanatic.

There are people who are complaining that the S shield is not big enough, and that the cape is not RED enough! (actually, those are my problems with the costume too). And you think they wouldn't mind if he looked more like Superboy? I can't even imagine the kind of lynching that would occur because of that.
