At least we got a couple of good X-men movies and we might get a good superman movie, we'll see how that goes.

I don't know. I saw pictures of the Superman movie...and my low expectations were definately met. Spandex, people. That never looks good on screen.legostargalactica wrote:At least we got a couple of good X-men movies and we might get a good superman movie, we'll see how that goes.
And as for the X-movies, I didn't think Halle Berry was a good storm either. I think they just wanted a very popular black actress to play her. In fact, the X-movies were kinda disappointing too. Cyclops, whose like the leader of the Xmen, was barely mentioned. His part was also downsided, like Storm's, which is nothing like the comic.
Spiderman and it's sequel are the only good comic movies so far to me. All the others were either okay, or sucked horribly. May I mention Catwoman...?
Hollywood has lost its ability to make good movies. Back in the day, before 1990, all movies were in my opinion original. Formulas weren't used like they are now. People actually had ideas, not imitations of them. And because those movies of the past worked so well, they called their story a formula and copy it. Copies are never as good as the original, and thus it will suck. There are some exceptions of this, like Good Will Hunting, The Messenger, Kill Bill, and such, but those are just a few among the few.

I got two words for you. Angela Basset. How about two words and a letter? Vivica A. Fox? There are so many other famous black women who can actually act...prettysenshi2k6 wrote:And as for the X-movies, I didn't think Halle Berry was a good storm either. Singer left specifically for the Superman movie. I don't think there was anything about him not giving Halle Berry a bigger role, though there were arguments about it. And now she is going to be getting a bigger role with the new script and director (Brett Ratner, of Rush Hour fame). Blah.
How can Superman not have spandex? He's Superman! He doesn't need any fancy armor or anything like that. And it looks more like Spiderman's type of spandex too. Now in terms of the design of the costume, like the lack of redness to the cape and the small insignia? Yeah, that's more of a fault.
I find it ironic that people are complaining about the lack of originality in movies these days, yet singing the praises of movies based off comic books.
And I think that movie theater ticket sales have shot down because of the price for tickets these days too. Hopefully it'll lead to some positive changes for both.

I'm not saying that Superman shouldn't wear spandex, I'm just saying that it didn't look that....nice. I mean, I could see his...winky-whoo. That's not cool. It just wasn't flattering. Maybe it'll look better when the movie comes out.Col wrote:How can Superman not have spandex? He's Superman! He doesn't need any fancy armor or anything like that. Anyway, the only thing that will kill the Superman movie, regardless if it has great casting, and a killer story, is if the flying scenes look bad. If he looks like crap when he flies, alot of fans are gonna be pissed.

Comic book movies need to seriously die. Until they hire people who know what the comics are about and give up on the "CG flash > story, character, point" mentality, they all need to die.

You only remember the ones that were good. There's been an awful lot of crap prior to 1991. How many movies have you watched from the 70's or 80's?prettysenshi2k6 wrote: Hollywood has lost its ability to make good movies. Back in the day, before 1990, all movies were in my opinion original. And while movies this summer have been abyssmal, the bigger reason for low ticket sales is the success of the DVD. You can typically get them for just a few bucks more than going to the theater, you get special features and such, and you get to watch it again and again. Ain't the same as going to the show as far as I'm concerned, but that's how it's going.

Not making films after your favourite books at all must be better than this, still.legostargalactica wrote:When people other than hollywood get liscences to my favorite comic books and make decent movie versions of them?mcDuffies wrote:When will you people finally decide to give up on Hollywood and find your motion pictures entertainment elsewhere?

Actually, I think Gina Torres would make a good Storm. She played Zoe in Firefly/Serenity. As for Cyclops, well....I never liked him to begin with, so I don't really mind that he took back seat.
The new Superman movie...I really don't know much about it. I never liked Superman very much, either. Always prefered Batman and kept my eye on that.

While I like Halle Berry, they really should have gone with someone who had some panache, some life, some intensity. Storm used to be a godess, after all. The 90's cartoon had her character perfectly . . . they should have showed Berry all the episodes with Storm in them and said "Here, see? Do that."

Right! The old cartoon will always be my image of her. Personally, I don't care for Halle Berry much. I havn't seen her in too much, of course. But let's see- she did a blah job in X men, and she was in Catwoman. I don't really remember how she did in Bullworth. That's about all I've seen her in. Limited, but not a good sign.
Hee hee. I got the Batman animated series on DVD, and it came with a $12 coupon to see the Catwoman movie in theaters....that expired the previous year. There's something very poetic about that.

I really could have done without halle berry. Cyclops, I don't know, i never really cared for the character, seemed okay to me, the rest were fantastic. Patrick Steward and Ian McKellen are gods.

And Patrick Stewart, at least, was absolutely perfect in his role. Not to say that Sir McKellan didn't excel as Magneto (he did), but I know that there would have been several several X-Men fans (myself included) who would have boycotted the movie had ol' Picard not been the one in the wheelchair.
