Persephone.

Or Rupert.

There was already a "planet" called Vulcan back around 1860.

Calling a new planet that would be horribly uncreative.

I actually watched a thing once where they hypothesized a tenth planet, and the name the scientist who were looking for it wanted to give it was Vulcan.

But its just gonna be another Roman god name.

what abooouuutt.... Crap I don't know any Roman names, I only know the Greek.

There's some arguement about whether or not the new object and Pluto should qualify as planets.

But I gather some of the discoverers are pushing for the name "Xena". Seriously.
"gooey-duck". A clam. Not a snail.

Is Xena an actual Greek name/mythological figure? I just know of the TV show, and all I know of the TV show is that Bruce Campbell played the King of Thieves.

Some roman gods: Juno, Vulcan, Minerva, Ceres, Diana, Maia, Proserpine, Vesta, Cupid...

Though I really can't see anyone naming a planet Diana or Cupid.

I only studied the Greek Mythology. Roman Mythology is stupid because they just stole it from the greeks and renamed them.

This reminds me of a sci-fi short story I read in 5th grade. A family of astronauts discover a tenth planet, and let the youngest daughter name it. The stupid bitch names it "Shine", thus ruining the Roman God tradition. :x

Zombie: What a silly story! Everyone knows scientists have no time for families and can't breed anyway!

Yeah, the problem with the tenth planet thing now is that they're saying there are already thousands of giant rocks found to be spinning around out there with Pluto that are practically the same size as it, this is just the first one that's actually bigger. Which is why they want to de-planetize Pluto lest we end up with thousands of similar planets or make Pluto the smallest definition of a planet or something.

Totally screwed my concept of the solar system, THANKS A LOT SCIENCE.

50 years from now:
"When I was your age we didn't have a XENA Planet, nooo. we had a crappy PLUTO! PLUTO! We didn't have cool names like Xena. Pluto was a big ice rock! I know you've never heard of it because Scientist forgot about it once its orbit sent it flying way the heck on the other side of the solar system!"

"Grandpa, your silly!"

"We were also cool when I was your age! Not punk B*tches like you faggots are!"

"Oh grandpa..."

"Now where's my good classic CD." *puts in some Heavy Matal* "Ohh yeah... that's good music! not the sh*t you bastard play now days!"
