Well it was not meant in a toally affectionate way, I imagine she calls everybody Sugah
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

Didn't Roz in UTLT call folks sugar? Maybe a crossover? A new job for her?

Now, now, think positive. Maybe Gilly will finally see the error of his ways, and reform for love. 8)

Of course, then Ralph'll need to break in a -new- lib'ral idjit as a foil for the comic, but Gilly's had the job a while now. He deserves a break.

[...unWARP!!!]

Good evening.

Now, the possibilities:

Gilly finds out that the DJ is someone he knows to be a die-hard conservative: CRASH AND BURN

Gilly finds out that the DJ is, in his opinion, very unattractive: CRASH AND BURN

The DJ rejects Gilly: CRASH AND BURN

The DJ accepts Gilly despite their political differences:............is this a possible scenario?

in a comic where the sea monster (lake monster?) likes to pose in different oversized ridiculous kinds of clothing to the point of making it's existance unprovable, well, maybe it's possible. and if it happens i'm just thinking of what that means about all the political debating we've been doing...

I don't think RH is feeling very charitable to liberals. In fact, forget I said "think". I know he isn't. Gilly probably wont be allowed to be happy or attractive so long as he's liberal.

Gilly will have to either abandon his views or will somehow blow any possible relation he may have with this woman. Assuming it is a woman and not some trick of the mike or computer program or something.

He'll probable try to win her favor and be rejected, turn to the Todd brothers for help, make some headway, then blow it by saying something liberal and strike out or abandon liberalism all together.

Remember, if RH is going to give a character he likes, i.e. Quentyn, such a rough ride then what's he going to do to a character he goes out of his way to torture and humiliate, like Gilly or Penny (from Goblin Hollow)? I doubt Gilly's gonna end up happy. At least not while staying the way he is.

BTW, I love the expression on Nip's face in the last panel. It's one of those great moments of epiphany. Like St. Paul on the way to Damascus or Archimedes in the bathtub.

Anyone else notice how Nip and Gilly have a tendency to work and sometimes socialize with each other?

Well damn, boy, how well could YOU get along with someone who believed the *exact opposite* of everything you believed? Infatuation or not, it would take a true idiot to get involved with someone who held no values in common with them. Though someone with a sweet voice saying "sugah" in your ear is nice, even GILLY ain't THAT stupid....

And cast no stones about "he can't ever be attractive if he's liberal," okay?
I could give you a laundry list of public figures who dared offend the liberal elites and got everything from their hairdos to their profiles to their body fat index insulted by the preppy little bitch-queens of the left. It's the usual approach to life by those of the vacuous left--- superficiality and appearance is all that matters to them, so they assume everyone else is just as superfluous, and will be just as easily crushed as they are if someone makes a snarky comment about their appearance.

Ralph...

The reason I'm here is that you have a marvellous storytelling ability, and I do and have enjoyed reading all your strips. But sooner or later your frothing hatred of the dreaded liberals and your tendency toward mudslinging are going to really interfere with your ability to tell good stories. That would be a big loss.

Ralph, I will have you know that my father, a very conservative man, fell in love with and was married to my step-mother, who is rather liberal in her views. They were married for over 10 years before my father died last year of heart failure. While they never saw eye to eye on subjects like the Iraq war and other matters they realized one important truth. THERE IS MORE TO LIFE AND LOVE THAN POLITICS. During that whole time they were both passionately in love with each other. Yes their political differences could lead to some interesting conversations, but they both respected each others views even if they did not agree with them. And that the other comonalities that they shared were more important than who was president.

I feel sorry for you that you have so steeped yourself in partisan politics that you seem to feel that a persons whole worth is dependent upon whether they are conservative or liberal. Your characterization of liberals is exactly the kind of hidebound narrow minded ossified pseudo intelectualism that one expects of conservatives. After all everyone knows that conservatives are lock step ditto heads that are completely incapable of any thoughts that do not come from GOP headquarters or the Free Republic web site. (BTW: in case you don't recognize it the last two scentences were sarcasm)

I have to agree with Luna. You are a terrific story teller, but it seems to be in danger fading under what appears to be an almost pathological hatred on anybody that does not share your political beliefs. You used to be able to poke fun at liberals and still be funny about it. Now you have all the subtelty of a 4X4 upside the head, and about as much humor.

Well what about Nip and Gilly? They're right there: socializing, talking like friends. Nip inquiring about what Gilly's doing without ragging on him like Tuck would.

And as I said earlier, they've worked together before, on the chicken escapade and have been in each other's company several times since.

Except for Nip accidently blowing Gilly up during the first Corporal Bo commission and one really early strip where Nip smacked him with a 2X4, I can't think of anything Nip has done to Gilly. Usually the ones arguing with Gilly or playing pranks on him are Tuck or Tagger.

So maybe a liberal and a conservative can be friends, perhaps?

I think they say that not because of anything to do with the way things work in reality, but because you're the author and you unabashedly hate liberals with a passion. Ergo, there's just about nothing off limits on how far you'd go to torture the character, unless you wanted to make him 'see the light' and turn conservative as a way of expressing your conviction that conservatives are always 100% unerringly right in the end.

But don't take my word for it. Ask for general opinion.

I don't think Ralph's "in danger" of losing his story-telling ability to his political opinions, or his aggressive and abrasive manner of applying them.

Rather, I think he's more "in danger" of losing readership. The liberals don't like being made fun of? Well heck, don't make it so gosh darned easy!

Ralph doesn't give a rat's behind what you think of him, or his story-telling ability, and neither do I. He draws and writes as he wills.

If you don't like it, there are hundreds of other webcomics and websites you can go to that provide stuff you will like.

You're not "concerned" about Ralph at all. You just want to shut him up so he won't make anti-liberal comics anymore.

Don't hold your breath. You'll go into a coma.
I'm lost. I've gone to find myself. If I should return before I get back, please ask me to wait. Thanks.

SW, for the record -- I do not identify myself with either the Republicans OR the Democrats. I think both parties are equally corrupt and useless, with a few odd exceptions here and there. I am conservative on some things, more libertarian on others, and possibly closer to liberal on others still -- it depends entirely on the issue. In short, I don't feel like I am "a liberal being made fun of." I don't feel targetted at all.

What I don't like is what I said I don't like -- unreasoning vitriol and/or mudslinging. On any side, aimed at any target. It detracts.

I have seen a few authors I quite liked get lost down that path; I really went off Sherri Tepper when she stopped writing SF and started writing preachy social-control tracts. I went off Heinlein when he started writing "military solution to everything" stuff. And I've seen a few web-comics dive off into a path of extremism that only a small hard-core of fans who really felt the same way could follow.

When you stop being able to see people who disagree with you as being people worthy of any respect, then you stop being able to write them or portray them as anything worth reading. And when you get a story where all the "real" characters agree with each other on everything, the story suffers. And whenever you get a situation where one group gets ragged on continuously and/or without any humor involved, then the story really suffers. It doesn't matter if it's Flat-Earthers or the Monster Raving Loony Party being made fun of that way, it's still the story that suffers.

I said what I meant, and I meant what I said. Frothing hatred (and yes, that's "stereotyped characters and abrasive delivery", among other aspects) do not good storytelling make. And as for "there are hundreds of other webcomics and websites you can go to that provide stuff you will like" -- maybe there are. I don't know, because I haven't found many. To be honest, real talent is pretty rare. And, I like these; I think Ralph has a real talent, he tells great stories, he can display a great sense of humor -- I genuinely think it would be a real loss if the stories he can produce suffer through increasing extremism or unbending, unthinking hostility.
