That was nice
Normaly the owner of a place like that would rig it to lose. It's nice of Ben to rig it to win every so often.

Oh, she did say that she'd been playing it all night. She more than paid for it.

Thoughts
Just a few thoughts.
1) she said she had been playing all evening. She had probably more than paid whatever one of those cheap plushes cost.
2) Happy customers come back.
3) Just a silly thought. I could see Velvet taking a nap among all the soft plushies.
And getting a rude awakening when the claw plucks him out of the crowd!

Yeah she's paid for the thing, make her happy so she comes back.
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.
Having worked in the arcade industry, I can tell you guys that you're correct on both counts.
The springs in those claws are very weak; they're purposefully designed to not be able to get a solid grip on the prizes. Many of them can even be adjusted to make sure that the grip is weaker than the lightest prize in the chamber. (I once worked on a "Candy Crane" machine whose claw was so weak it could barely pick up a couple of "fun size" Tootsie Rolls!)
And yes, those prizes generally don't cost very much... though it does depend on the prize. They're typically sold in bulk packs; small, generic toys can cost as little as $0.50 in bulk, while large (8" or larger) versions of currently-popular licensed characters (such as Shrek, Spongebob, or the Looney Tunes) can be as much as $9.00 apiece even in bulk. (You typically don't see the big ones in crane machines, though.)
I still have some contacts in the industry, so if any of you guys are just dying to own your own Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga combo machine or a Lord Of The Rings pinball, let me know and I'll see what I can arrange. (Be aware that those machines don't come cheap, though!)
P.S. to Ralph: if you ever find yourself needing any background info on arcades, video games, and the amusement industry in general for a story arc, feel free to drop me a line...

Seriously though, that was very nice of you, starfury. Good job. I hope you enjoy your comic Ms.RouJoumis. Very nice comic. Is the first cat person we have seen so far? Again, great comic RH. Have a nice evening everyone.

As I understand, Katybeth is a Maine Coon Cat. A somewhat larger breed of kittys, I'm told. Very regal looking. The real Katybeth has a Maine Coon of her own. Very bright critter. Has his own name for her. Brings her live birds and mice when he can. Yech.
Anywho... Katybeth is the first "housebreed" kitty in the strip that I can remember...
Of course, were I to commision myself, I would probably ask for... say... a German Sheperd. Yeah. That'd be cool...

I can't be entirely sure, but I think one of the Trespassing Trio was a tabby http://utlt.keenspace.com/d/20040817.html Not sure if there have been any other felis domesticus in the strip, though.
And I certainly wouldn't mind bringing home Velvet as a prize . . .
so soft and sweet and cuddly . . . wuv!
German Shepherd, hmm . . .? Is that a hint?

I wonder if anyone saw the episode of "Big!" where they built a 18' tall claw machine?
