Yes, yes it does. And don't get me wrong. I love newspwper stips. Calvin and Hobbes and a few others where the only reason I picked up a paper for years and I lOVE the older Peanuts strips. I just want more variety, and if I can, more pages. You can have an entertaining comic while still being mostly benign. But I just don't see the effort and love put into the comics these days that I saw in the big 3 (hehe. They sound like super villains now... The big 3 are attacking the city with their ray gun of death!).

There are lots of good comics out there that would be considered a "comic strip", are PG, and pleasing to the eye. Ozzy and Millie is a perfect example. I'd also like to see Sinfest. Though that's unlikely as, despite the fact that Mr. Ishida seems to LIKE religion, the religious nuts would go balistic. Either of these would be great and both are of higher quality that the current comics you see.

well, even if i did the sort of thing that were to appear in papers then.. no.

despite the highly dubious quality of the comics in the papers these days. the fact that you would be losing your creators rights would stop me from doing it, period.

also - theres no way in high hell im going to censor myself for that.

(the fact i would never qualify even if i DID want to do it doesnt matter)

Despite the restrictions in newspaper syndicated comics, a few gems manage to break through. There was Bloom County, Calvin & Hobbes, and Far Side of course. Now there's Get Fuzzy, Zits, and Foxtrot (though the latter two are starting to get a little repetitive). And then there are a few that can follow the rules and can still be great, case in point being Peanuts. I'm reading the new books they're putting out with his first stuff, and man, there are some darn clever ones in there. Some people are able to find ways of working within the restrictions, or they're able to bend the rules just enough. The point is, they're not all hopeless.

If you can create quality with restrictions, you have great power. Keep in mind that while there's a lot of crap in newspapers, there is also lot of crap on the web.

Another thing you have to think about in syndication is do you REALLY want to be working on the same project for 30 years?

I'd much rather spend 5 on a single project, end it, and then start a new one rather than milk the same cow forever that way. But that's me.

Well, it's always good (and inevitable) to set some kind of boundaries to yourself. It's not the format of syndicated comics that bothers me, it's lack of continuity for the most (and perhaps demandatory political correctness).

What's wrong with my avatar?? ;)

Here's my list of 'worth reading' newspaper strips, the ones I actually open to the funnies to read: Snake, Garfield and Between Friends.

These are the ones I read because they are also on the funnies page: Hagar, Ernie and Fred Bassett. They give me a light smile usually.

Yes, there's only six dailies in our state paper. Except for Sunday, when I get to read Heart of the City, and Sherman's Lagoon when it was still there. The rest on that day are your syndicated crap such as Simpsons, Scooby Doo and Spiderman. I agree there's crap in there, but there's seven comics I've named that I regularly read, compared to five web ones.

Oh, and Cope...what the hell is STFU?

You could recycle all your panels over and over again without having to write anything new. It's probably much easier than people make it out to be.

But think of it this way, could I ever get syndicated?
Go for it! :)

I do that whenever anyone tries to be cute saying "Go For It!". Although I find a ball-pin hammer is much more fun than a newspaper.

Wow, I always thought it was a contraction of "stuff you", but Wikipedia tells me it actually means "Shut The Fuck Up".
