Tax Time.
Bummer... I would hate to send in a check for that much....
Of course, I'm so poor that they sent me a check. Now I get paid so little they don't even take any money out. I'm sure whether to cry or rejoice.

Heh, tell me about it. I want my money back.
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

Ouch! Taxes hit hard. Thank goodness I work part time and only owed PA $1. I got a rebate from the federal government.

Madness!!!
On US Federal Income Tax refunds: A few people I've talked with didn't really understand that they've actually given several thousand dollars to the federal government, and so shouldn't be so happy to get just a hundred or so back. I haven't received a refund in decades, but at least the check I'll write this year is less than $200 before Uncle Sam calls it even.
Being self-imployed, as Ralph is trying to become, means he has to handle all of the paperwork. I don't envy him that.
And then there's city taxes, state taxes, county taxes, school levies, usage fees for public lands...
(The state I call home adds 28 cents to the cost of every gallon of gasoline, which means they pull down about three times the profit per gallon the oil company makes.)
Madness! Madness!!

I understand that, but it is better than owing it. But there are two things to be sure of in life, death and an overamount of taxes for organasations you never even heard of and others you don't support. I just like how Ralph egagerates it. They act like it is found money, not earned money.

PAYING $682 here.
Most of that is from a Boston IRA company bungling a switch to a new employer under withholding by 90% to the state of California and earning me a $627 penalty for it. Damn I would be getting $293 back if they hadn't screwed that up!
Oh well if H&R Block hadn't found it I imagine it would cost me 10 times more when the IRS found it!

If H&R Block found this mistake on the part of the IRA company, isn't there some way you could get compensated? I mean it was THIER screw-up that cost YOU the penalty.Zorro wrote:PAYING $682 here.

Nope, I would have to file a claim in Massachusetts; I would eat up any refund with the costs of filling it.Sharuuk wrote:If H&R Block found this mistake on the part of the IRA company, isn't there some way you could get compensated? #1 = $1700.
#2 = $7000!
The company didn't file the paperwork to allow using 401K money for a first purchase of a house. 10% of a 70K Down Payment = $7000 + a Higher Tax Bracket!
Using 401K cash for buying a house is allowed by law, but if they don't file the correct forms at the correct Time YOU not the IRA Corporation are ROYALY SCREWED!

Oh joy, I will be getting some of my hard earned money back. Not getting too excited because it was mine to begin with.

Amen revrend.
You have to wonder what they do in that place though. Everyones taxes are so messed up. Heck, PA doesn't charge you unless you ow a dollar or more. Gess how much I owed them.
The thing is, they just took off $45 dollars from my already very small paychecks for an employment privalage tax. That just, GRRRRRR!!!

Just to pull the pin on another grenade: When I was sixteen and working summers at a local grocery store chain I had to shell out upwards of $100 in union dues FOR A MINIMUM WAGE JOB!
Granted, we did have some sort of benefit package and improved odds for overtime, but I never really benefited from them.
