I heard a while back that it is possible to make a large image of the layout of your website, menu items and all, and then chop it up into buttons which would then be used as your site. How exactly does one do this? I'd really apreciate some pointers or a link to a site that has them.
Thanks!

I think you are talking about WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) editor. One example would be Macromedia Dreamweaver. It essentially allows you to create your site layout using Photoshop and slicing buttons in Image-ready, then putting it all together in DW.
I'm taking a class on it right now.
Dreamweaver doesn't come cheap, though...

You can actually set everything up and export the entire site from image-ready without using dreamweaver. Just "save optimized as" to some folder and it creates all the necessary folders and html pages.
If you have imageready just use the slice tool to create boxes and such around the areas you want to be buttons. use the slice selection tool to select these sites and then you can add alt text, rollover actions, and links for those slices in the slices rollout. then just save optimized as and you're done.

I remember caring... It was nice.

Interesting. I didn't know immage ready could do that!
(I don't supose I could convince you top make a tutorial for the newsletter could I?)
So are there any sites where I can get details like how wide the immage should be, how to use the tools, and so on and so forth? In the meantime this helps me a lot. Thanks!

I think what you want to do is design the site initially in Photoshop, and then use ImageReady to slice up the images, give them rollover effects, links, and everything, and then clean up using Dreamweaver, GoLive, or some such program. Please do NOT leave huge blocks of text as images, because that's just silly.
KrisX designed her Chat Rouge site that way, and I sliced it up for her.

Mine and Spacejams were done entirely in Photoshop and notepad. Just make the image, slice it up, save optimised, and then edit in notepad to your hearts content.

Here's a tutorial link for ImageReady and splicing. It's the fourth link down from the top.
