flash or pencil?

Post by Sketch286 »

So I was working on my new page, doing the lines on flash, then I thought, hmm....I kinda like the pencil. So I made 3 versions of one of the panels. a line w/ mostly b&w, a line w/ more shading, and left one in pencil. the flash ones look more completed but there's something about my pencil I like. What do you think?

I think the forums won't post swf files.
I remember caring... It was nice.

I think in the context of a strip, I like #2 the best, and yet, you're right. There's something about the simple pencil version that looks really good.

It might be the gradient quality of the left-hand character's hair...

ok, so it's between 2nd and 3rd. Everyone I've talked to totally agrees with you Corgan. Hmm....maybe I'll put the background in and see if that makes a difference.

I, too, like the shaded flash the best, and the pencil... well, to be honest I don't particulary care for it; it strikes me as "unfinished."

Whereas the first two seem ready to use in a comic, the pencil sketch, to me, looks as if it could use some touching up. Then I think it would be my favorite.

yeah I know, there's extra lines and stuff, I just never really worked on that one because I drew it with the intention of going over it in flash. If I were to use the pencil, I'd most likely go back, darken my pencil, and erase all of the extra sketchiness from it.

Maybe if you can do the gradient quality in the left-hand character's hair in flash...

Personally, I think nr. 2 is best. Nr. three seems to have pencilaser smudges and looks more like a sketch or an initial drawing than a finished product.

I agree. I think "most" pencil drawings are associated with sketching works in progress etc.

However checkout "faub" for some beautiful pencil work.

I think the flash stuff lends itself more to a webcomic look, but that is perhaps because we are used to seeing that sort of look on the web?

2nd it is! Gonna try to use gradient in the hair though to keep the depth. Thanks!
