The Gear has some nice templates available. You might also want to check out this thread and Ping's workshop.

Start with the Jaded workshop. Read through it. I knew NOTHING about HTML or building a website. Everything I learned I learned from the workshop. Work on it a piece at a time and you'll do fine. I started with the navagation buttons. Then used one of the templates provided. Next I added a few pages, etc. Eventually, you'll have a site you're happy with.

See if you can get a copy of Adobe GoLive or Dreamweaver from ebay or elsewhere. Those programs make it easy to administer a website. Grab a book from the bookstore that walks you through those programs... It'll take a while to learn, but well worth it when you don't need to depend on a web designer to update your website.

Learn html and practice. It's just a matter of learning how to do it. Making a keenspace site is almost identical to making any website except that you have a few new tags to play around with.
A good place to start is looking at the code of your existing page. Work out what various tags do, how they'll look when you do that, etc.
Create a html page on your computer, copy the source of your page to it, and play around with it. See what happens when you change this or that. And visit pages like this.
Once you get the hang of it you can bang out webpages in hours. The basic design of Spacejams took me about 2 hours. Took a little longer because I then threw it out for feedback and suggestions on improvement till you got the final version you see there.
