I don't know that I trust Snopes on this one. They did not independantly confirm that this was a hoax. They got a single report on a disclaimer that was subsequently removed. They did not talk to paypal, nor get a response from the operator of the site.
Basically, they gave it a false entry without checking any sources.
In the meantime, news companies that do check their sources have verified the story with GoDaddy.com, who actually had their lawyers talk to the owner of the site to make sure nothing illegal was going on.
So, Snopes = 0. SaveToby = 1.

Yeah. Somebody is planning to eat Toby Maguire if their ransom demands aren't met.

Snopes site seems to be clearly wrong to me. I mean, their arguements seem to be very weak, for instance, they claim it's a hoax based on that paypal account doesn't work, while the other news say that they managed to shut down the account.
Second, whether it's a hoax or not, should be evaluated based on whether he receives money or not, not based on whether he'll kill the rabit.
I mean, I got a friend that grows rabbits, then eats them. I even had a chance to taste one of his pets - it was tasty. I personally am weak on killing animals and I can get attached to a pet, but if you think about it, aren't pigs clarified to be ones of the smartest animals? Yet noone sheds a tear when they're slaughtered. Issues of killing animals are so debatable that I don't think that someone should make a big deal out of killing a single rabbit. On the other hand, extorsion is something different (even though, frankly, we could debate on people who did donate money - whether they should be held responsible for their own money, because... because, damn, it's stupid!)
Then again, this guy is full of shit. I mean really, up to the throat. "He is my friend", "I don't wanna kill him"... meh, hipocrisy is something I hate most of all, and I hope someone will track down this guy and give him a good beating.

Yes. You gotta say it's unfair, it's like judging a person by beauty. Many people say that pigs get such low ratings because they're dirty, but that's untrue. Pigs do live in dirt if they have to, but in case their enviroment is clean, they won't be any more dirty than a large dog.Mercury Hat wrote:But McDuffies, the pigs we eat aren't CUUUUUUUUUUUUTEEEEE like rabbits are. I guess. Cuteness is often a factor in what animals a person will and won't eat, I've decided.
Never tried rabbit meat, myself, they seem too small to bother with unless you get one of those monster giant rabbits.
Rabbit meat reminds me of pork for the most, chicken-not really. Though, Rkolter should know better, he's an expert.

I have always found rabbit to be a bit gamey flavored and greasy, but very juicy. I think like a lot of animals, it's all in the preparation. I doubt bar-b-que rabbit would be gamey at all, especially if you have a good sauce.McDuffies wrote:Rabbit meat reminds me of pork for the most, chicken-not really. Chickens grow faster than rabbits, and require less attention to do so. They get much bigger than rabbits, and a larger percentage of their body is edible meat. I don't think that rabbit would be substituted for chicken. Then again, once they process the hell out of it, what you get is barely "meat" anymore at all.
My wife used to own a pot bellied pig as a pet. It was, she tells me, a very clean, affectionate animal.

Yeah... with hot dogs, you can easily put "shoes" in that list of animals you ate.rkolter wrote: Chickens grow faster than rabbits, and require less attention to do so.
