Unit Zero, RELOADED... or something

Post by The_Fox »

I'm really liking the new comics Allan, the drawing style has been improved and altered, and the emotions conveyed are much easier. I feel sorry for Arnold though...even if the voices in his head can't convince him to do stupid things (thankfully), they can still make his life hell just by being there.

I'm still tinkering with the "Look" of Unit Zero. The next chapter will be closer to uniform in style, but I've pretty much resigned myself to using Unit Zero as a platform for experimentation.

The character designs won't change much, but a lot of the nuts and bolts --things like the way shading is done-- will be moving around a lot. Next week, look for a shading technique resembling video game "cel shaded" artwork in its limited pallette.

I'm still trying to figure out what is actually going on. It's making as much snese as Kai Doh Maru.

EEep.

A quick runthrough of what is happening.

1: Some higher-ups are seen arguing about a suicide mission.

2: We zip-pan to Arnold, who is clearly Not All There. He is then released, put in a uniform, and shuttled off to orbit while we hear his story.

3: Jump to Griffin, who is also Not All There, perhaps moreso. Suicide mission: ACCEPTED.

4: They all end up on a ringed space station, at this point with Griffin and Arnold plotting the demise of their direct Superior Officer, the rabbit.

This is really all that there is to the plot at the moment; the rest is window dressing, which apparently has got in the way of the story. I think maybe if this is read all at once as opposed to in little pieces, and maybe if I'd been a little more careful with the layout and scene jumps, this'd make more sense. Maybe I read too much Marvel, infamous for confusing panel layout and WTF-ish plot. I doubt the uninitiated would have an easy time figuring out what the hell is happening in the last issue of "Marvel 1602", despite its being written by a real God of storytelling, Neil Gaiman.
