I feel the same way actually. I've been actually working towards developing a way to put together something that more accurately tests my drawing energies. however the ideas I get tend to be way past my skill level. I have that catch 22 thing. I know that Decypher is easy to draw and I feel horrible limiting myself both writing ways and drawing wise with my comic. yet my ideas that are geared to a more serious approach tend to be closer to semi professional type stuff. so really right now I'm just forcing myself to enhance my skills by drawing on these ideas via concepts until I feel that I'm there... if I ever am. it gives me a chance to at least in my sketchbook feel I'm not limiting myself. and it also gives me a chance to practice. part of me knows I'll probably never put these ideas to finish product but its good practice and healthy.

I got the urge recently: I wanted to create a superheroes comics, with Danish heroes. I knew I couldn't do another webcomic (hell, I haven't updated the Saga for the last fortnight, so doing another one seemed insane), but I really like the idea. What I did was shanghaiing some other like-minded and start a co-operative comic project, which just might work out.

Like education means anything.
Well, it was in history, so...

Oh, the humanities!
Chaos Cricket wrote:[...]But that really points the way towards your solution--who says you have to always do Vapor Lock or always do Troubled Times? One could go on (dare I say the dreaded word) hiatus for awhile. Crank out a short-story comic or two, then return to the main comic. It's an idea I've actually considered--while I love drawing Crooked Halo, there are some stories I want to tell that just don't fit in with the world I've created there.
Troubled Times has been going on since JULY '03 and we're still only in the 3rd chapter! Vapor Lock...well, Cricket, you know some of the ideas I already have lined up for it. Going on hiatus is basically not really an option for me.

There IS the one day a week we aren't updating...

But I think this'd be something I do on the side, finish, and then post the finished work on Sundays until it's all up.

Not actually a bad idea, I guess. We really could do something with that Sunday. It just sorta languishes there, unloved, doesn't it?

Glad you liked it. I knew I had to draw it, 'cause it made me giggle when I came up with it.

Is this based on the whole "going to the bathroom" in groups stereotype?

I don't do toilet humour. Anyway, I'm not even paying attention to this thread. Even if I do see it, it's just because I'm bored and nothing else has new posts so I probably won't check back afterwards anyway.

no. I just like mentioning herds and women in the same context because it makes my wife love me.

Why stereotype, to my experience it's very true...

Ah, I know you, you can't resist a good bad pun when you see one.

actually, it's just her elbows, but they're a lot like spikes....

I think I've decided that I'm gonna do what I posted earlier about my idea. Make it, as time allows, then upload it all when I'm done.

And since this is thread started with my wondering about the urge thing...the next issue that's come up with regards to this is, have any of you ever wanted to do something completely different with your drawing style? For my idea I've been toying with a lot of different ways of drawing (most of which I hate) to give this a different feel from TT and VL. Granted, it'll probably be a lot closer to those when I actually do it, but I want it to look different. So...anybody ever done a massive reworking of your drawing style (all at once)? How did you decide on the look and feel of it?
