hey can everyone see this?
hey can everyone see this?
This site has been up for quite a while. Recently, a friend of mine emailed me and after he tried to see it for the first time, no images loaded but the site navigation and writing all showed up. He tried it with both Firefox and Internet Explorer, and when I tried those and Opera it works fine. No one has ever made this complaint before. Any ideas what the problem could be? Does anyone else even have this problem?

Ten to one it's your buddy's firewall messing with him.
Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

Your comics load just fine for me. I like them, btw
I'm betting it's a firewall thing. I've had problems with image loading on computers running EZ Firewall or Norton. Another thing to check is if he has Windows XP Security Center running (it runs automatically when you install service pack 2) and it has a really annoying firewall program. The easiest way to get around it is to just plain turn it off, but if that's not an option I think he can set it to allow graphics or specific sites (I can't remember off hand and I'd have to actually go browse through the program to find where to set it).
Also, depending on what settings it has, your popup blocker might mistake a KeenSpace comic for something it should block (I had to "allow" Keen on all of my computers).
Good luck

Firewalls blocking image viewing?
I've recently had several people tell me that they can't see my images, and I think they all had the Norton Firewall. They can see the pages and text, but none of my comics.
Does anyone know an easy way around this, other than asking Everyone to turn off their firewalls? Is there a way for Keenspace to make it so that the images make it through firewalls? Other sites don't seem to have this problem. Why are images from Keenspace being blocked?

Check the link Phalanx posted. It gives a step-by-step guide to configuring the firewall to work with keenspace.Amtekoth wrote:I've recently had several people tell me that they can't see my images, and I think they all had the Norton Firewall. Thanks, I've already been sending that guide to friends, but what a pain in the butt! Besides, that doesn't help me with the new people who come to my site, can't see my comics, and then move along. I'll never even know that they were there and had the problem.Oualawouzou wrote: Check the link Phalanx posted. It gives a step-by-step guide to configuring the firewall to work with keenspace.
Sorry for being dense, but I don't understand. What's a "nosteal" image? And if they can't see my images in the first place, how would they SEE the "nosteal" image?Rianeva wrote:You could always use the nosteal image to tell people. Just make an image that explains what's going on (and also tells people not to hotlink), name it nosteal.jpg, and upload it. (I'm not sure if other image types work for this, sorry...)

nosteal.jpg is the 1x1 white pixel which appears when someone tries to hotlink an image from your site. Really, this image can be anything so what some people have done is put up instructions such as Ghastly: http://ghastlycomic.com/images/nosteal.jpg
How do they see the image, if Keenspace prevents them from seeing images in the first place? Will creating and naming a message image "nosteal.jpg" and putting it in the /images folder do it?Mercury Hat wrote:nosteal.jpg is the 1x1 white pixel which appears when someone tries to hotlink an image from your site. Cute/funny image, by the way.
