One did decide that Hortense was ugly. Hortense herself. Therein is the problem. It looks like she desperately wants to be one of them, but nature has made her different from all the other girls and she hasn't been able to resolve that in her mind.

I suspect that this has been probably been going on since she was Little Bit's age.

[...unWARP!!!]

Good evening.

Hey, good idea! Have the mammals try on reptile lingerie, and let's see if THEY don't feel inadequate!

More likely they would be overadequate for reptilian lingerie! :D

I wonder if all reptiles wear wigs and try to fit into mammalian society? Or just a minority of reptiles? Or maybe a tiny minority, of which Hortence is an unfortunate member?

At least we haven't seen any out and out prejudice against reptiles in Nip and Tuck. Not even the so-called "polite" discrimination that a "Gaijin" faces in Japan.

So I am left wondering why Hortence wants so badly to fit into another species' definition of beauty.

Well, there's the obvious answer: there was this guy she was interested in, but the moron completly overlooked her in favor of a ditz with... Shall we say "Huge Drafts of Land"...

As a result of this rejection, she's left wondering "What the Hell's wrong with me?"

Hmm... If so, and if the other story arc ends up being tied into this one... Tagger + Eugene + Tuck = "I pity the fool what messed with the friend of the girlfriend of the brother of one of the mightiest prankster's in the state!"
Lets see... have him wake up with a hangover to the sight of Hortense with a generous pair of (stage makeup) boobs... only to find the same on himself and she says "I never thought you would take me up on my 'offer' to get the surgery if you did too..."

...nah... that SPECIFIC senario would be too much of a repeat of what happened with the tiger at the stunt school...

Heh heh heh, I love using that whenever I can.
Yes, sir. I agree completely. It takes a well-balanced individual... such as yourself to rule the world. No, sir. No one knows that you were the third one... Solidus. ...What should I do about the woman? Yes sir. I'll keep her under surveillance. Yes. Thank you. Good-bye...... Mr. President.

It just occurred to me that Hortens's low esteem of males could be partly due to her not finding any of them attractive. They're all mammals, y'know... All hairy and with those skimpy little tails!
Biology works both ways...

hmm.... perhaps an otter?... they have enough tail and might be slick enough for her tastes, especially if you cuddle WITH the grain.

<Edit> Just realized... that may have been one of her past traumas... because the only otter I remember in this strip is Toobler (or however his name was spelled...), y'know... the banjo player who showed up drunk for Thelma's sweet 16 party? </edit>

I like it, very interesting thought. Still you would think there wouls be some reptile males around for her.

Trust me, she does NOT want to do that!

(I tried it, and ended up with a MALE wanting to come up here and...) :o
(I told him I'm totally straight and would most likely kick the total crap out of him. He kept trying to pass himself off as a woman!)

And lord knows how many total perverts that are on-line as well.
