Changing past comics

Post by Oualawouzou »

Heya there!

We get enough "I messed up my archives!" post, so for a change, here's a question that pre-empts any possible damage. :p

I want to upload new version of all past comics. They'll just be a little smaller, so nothing incredibly important, but I'd like all my comics past and future to be of the same size for the sake of consistency. I know that reuploading dailytemplate.html and triggering a manual update will do the trick for layout changes, but since I'm modifying the comics themselves, should I do the same thing? What I plan to do for now is upload all new versions of past comics in workspace/comics, reupload dailytemplate.html and trigger a manual update. Should it work or will it mess things up?

Thanks!

Well, if they are all labeled the same, you can change the comic files themselves by going into the public folder and replacing the image files directly. I do that sometimes to fix typos without doing a full archive update.

No.
Autokeen generates <img> tags that are Wc3 compliant. They have the image dimensions in the tag. Upload a smaller comic and it'll be stretched by the image tag, upload a bigger one and it'll be squashed. To change comic size you have to delete the old comics, upload the new ones to workspace comics and trigger an update.

You mean I only delete the files in the comics folder, or do I have to delete the ones in "d" too?

/d/ too. From what War says, autokeen writes the html tag to display the comic with the size of the comic included in it, so all the /d/ pages have the wrong size written into them.
I did not possess you, but I can blow up history.
