At least mine aren't badly-drawn. Like most.

I still wanted to join SS...but no... too late...

You get something a little.. sub-par too, huh?

Mine's not even drawn. Oh god.
Not only that, but it's a genre of comic I absolutely despise. I think perhaps next year we should be able to choose what genres we'd be willing to draw for. That way we don't have to read something that pisses us off or something.
Although choosing what genres we would be willing to draw would sort of defeat the purpose of this activity, part of me agrees with you. Just make the most of it I guess. I read half of mine yesterday, and I've warmed up to it. If it weren't for the secret santa thing, I prolly never would have read it at all. I really wanted to get a comic I'm familiar with, but I guess we all did.

I've really been trying to make it not look so bastardized manga-ish...

It would actually be neat to see an anime comic not drawn in anime style when I think about it.

I've been told mine is anime-ish, but I like to think of it as "big-eye, Gupy Lipped sometimes no nose" style.

Mine is not the sort of thing that I usually read, but at least it will not tax my rudimentary art skills.
Of course, I'm the one that isn't JP Sloan or Jim North.

We're supposed to send them December 22 (it's okay to reveal who you are at that point).

The particular genre that annoys me is the webcomics drawn anime style with anime style plots, they're not the only ones but they are the majority of offenders. It's a case of monkey see, monkey do. And they end up awful and unoriginal. How about one where the guy isn't a pussy and tells the girl he loves her outright instead of a hundred comics of tripe!
Webcomics are about originality! If I wanted a superhero comic about an invincible guy with umpteen dozen powers, why I'd buy a Superman comic. If I wanted a shoujo manga, I'd buy Peach Girl. Comics like Star Bored, The Jaded, and the Noob that you can't buy in comic stores (at least not yet).

True there is little originality left in this world, but dagnabbit, I want some in my webcomics!

Also, I'm not very good at articulating my peeves. Just gimme webcomics that make think "oo, haven't seen that before".
I suppose it does depend, though. Doing something original in manga is rather difficult. Because even in Japan it's done with the intent of selling it. So bascially if something works, you'll see lots of it. Marketing and all that. It's like they're trained that way or something. And a lot of it is annoyingly the same. There is some really good stuff, even good samey stuff, but there's really bad stuff, too.
Manga style is really the only kind of drawing I ever learned. In fact until I started GoT I only drew to draw characters I wrote in stories. So when I decided to do my webcomic I decided that even if everything else ended up being cliche, I was not going to have a cheerful, peppy, ditzy, clumsy, whiney main female. Or a female character who was completely badass and cool, either. So I like to think I succeeded in that much and if my comic is rather MKR-ish, well, I guess that makes this a learning experience.
It's a really odd feeling telling a story this way.

But seriously...show me an original gamer comic and I'll...well, I'm not sure, but you'll probably hear the thump of my chair falling over wherever you are.

You can try The N00b if you want a fun gamer comic. ;)

I just finished reading my appointed comic. I was laughing uncontrollably halfway through. And it was not because it was funny comic. I'm so going to have fun doing a parody guest comic.

I like some mangas. Properly done manga. Heck, I dressed my characters up as FMA for Halloween! But personally I despise copy-manga wannabe comics, especially when they're done by people who have no understanding whatsoever of makes manga. (No, it isn't big eyes and small mouth)

And I really really despise fan-comics that parade as original comics (ie, renamed every single character, change their looks a bit, tweak the plot). That's almost blatant plagarism.

There's always gonna be comics like that, unfortunately. Especially when you can tell exactly which artist they copied off of right away... like, take Sailor Moon copies. Naoko Takeuchi was allowed to play around with proportions because she had a fairly good grasp on them already. But I've seen some people that try to imitate the extremely-long-leg thing without any knowledge of proportion or anatomy, and just....no. No.

You know what I hated, especially when I was first learning and I was doing fan art (Zelda 64 ^^), is something similiar to that. I spent hours upon hours looking at pictures in order to help myself learn. And I would see people who would get props for being a great artist...for copying something else! And not just copying the position so they can understand how to do it better, either, but copying down to every last detail! And claiming it as their own!
That always pissed me off sooooooo much. And I still see people who do it, offline and on. And people say what great artists they are, but they aren't! Most of them couldn't do anything original if they tried.
Hear that, folks? Don't ever try and pull one over on me, cause I'll probably recognize it.

That's the biggest beef I have with psuedo-manga. :( You can't break the rules and expect to make them work if you don't know the rules in the first place...

My crazy art teacher used to say sarcastically in these cases: "Why not make a photocopy? It's even more accurate!"

Like I didn't cross-dress as Ed? Man, those pants were uncomfortably tight...and quite shiny.

My art teacher says "take a photo" in that situation, which is basically the same thing.

YES! YES, OMFG, SOMEBODY SAID IT!

I'm not very original in style yet. I'm trying to keep it [somewhat] real before nabbing down some crazy stylistic gig. Which would be awesome. But not yet, I've still too much to learn!

I'm a little disappointed, not because I got a bad comic or type of comic, but because I got one I already read all the time. Part of the fun of SS is reading through an archive you've never seen before.

At least I have good source material to work with.
