At least mine aren't badly-drawn. Like most.
I still wanted to join SS...but no... too late...

Although choosing what genres we would be willing to draw would sort of defeat the purpose of this activity, part of me agrees with you. Just make the most of it I guess. I read half of mine yesterday, and I've warmed up to it. If it weren't for the secret santa thing, I prolly never would have read it at all. I really wanted to get a comic I'm familiar with, but I guess we all did.godoftarot wrote:Not only that, but it's a genre of comic I absolutely despise. I think perhaps next year we should be able to choose what genres we'd be willing to draw for. That way we don't have to read something that pisses us off or something.Komiyan wrote:You get something a little.. sub-par too, huh?godoftarot wrote:Is anyone else thinking that this was maybe not such a good idea?
Mine's not even drawn. Oh god.
Shuddup, Typo. Your shiz is the shiz - and boy, is it refreshing shiz!Genesis_13 wrote:*cries a bit inside*Digital War wrote: The particular genre that annoys me is the webcomics drawn anime style

I've been told mine is anime-ish, but I like to think of it as "big-eye, Gupy Lipped sometimes no nose" style.Digital War wrote: The particular genre that annoys me is the webcomics drawn anime style
I suppose it does depend, though. Doing something original in manga is rather difficult. Because even in Japan it's done with the intent of selling it. So bascially if something works, you'll see lots of it. Marketing and all that. It's like they're trained that way or something. And a lot of it is annoyingly the same. There is some really good stuff, even good samey stuff, but there's really bad stuff, too.Digital War wrote:It's not really limited to one genre, though there is one particularly problematic genre. And it's not stickman comics, if that's all someone can draw, then they should draw!
The particular genre that annoys me is the webcomics drawn anime style with anime style plots, they're not the only ones but they are the majority of offenders. It's a case of monkey see, monkey do. And they end up awful and unoriginal. How about one where the guy isn't a pussy and tells the girl he loves her outright instead of a hundred comics of tripe!
Webcomics are about originality! If I wanted a superhero comic about an invincible guy with umpteen dozen powers, why I'd buy a Superman comic. If I wanted a shoujo manga, I'd buy Peach Girl. Comics like Star Bored, The Jaded, and the Noob that you can't buy in comic stores (at least not yet).
True there is little originality left in this world, but dagnabbit, I want some in my webcomics!
Also, I'm not very good at articulating my peeves. Just gimme webcomics that make think "oo, haven't seen that before".

I actually dressed up as Ed!!! Now I want to see that picture! PM it to me or something!!Phalanx wrote:Heck, I dressed my characters up as FMA for Halloween!
There's always gonna be comics like that, unfortunately. Especially when you can tell exactly which artist they copied off of right away... like, take Sailor Moon copies. Naoko Takeuchi was allowed to play around with proportions because she had a fairly good grasp on them already. But I've seen some people that try to imitate the extremely-long-leg thing without any knowledge of proportion or anatomy, and just....no. No.Phalanx wrote: And I really really despise fan-comics that parade as original comics (ie, renamed every single character, change their looks a bit, tweak the plot). That's almost blatant plagarism.
You know what I hated, especially when I was first learning and I was doing fan art (Zelda 64 ^^), is something similiar to that. I spent hours upon hours looking at pictures in order to help myself learn. And I would see people who would get props for being a great artist...for copying something else! And not just copying the position so they can understand how to do it better, either, but copying down to every last detail! And claiming it as their own!Phalanx wrote: And I really really despise fan-comics that parade as original comics (ie, renamed every single character, change their looks a bit, tweak the plot). My crazy art teacher used to say sarcastically in these cases: "Why not make a photocopy? It's even more accurate!"godoftarot wrote:You know what I hated, especially when I was first learning and I was doing fan art (Zelda 64 ^^), is something similiar to that. That always pissed me off sooooooo much. And I still see people who do it, offline and on. And people say what great artists they are, but they aren't! Most of them couldn't do anything original if they tried.
Hear that, folks? Don't ever try and pull one over on me, cause I'll probably recognize it.
Like I didn't cross-dress as Ed? Man, those pants were uncomfortably tight...and quite shiny.Phalanx wrote: Erm.... I said 'dressed'. I should have said 'cross-dressed'.![]()
My art teacher says "take a photo" in that situation, which is basically the same thing.Phalanx wrote: My crazy art teacher used to say sarcastically in these cases: "Why not make a photocopy? It's even more accurate!"
YES! YES, OMFG, SOMEBODY SAID IT!Genesis_13 wrote:There's always gonna be comics like that, unfortunately.
