Return from Hiatus?

Post by Kris X »

When returning from a er... 2 month standstill... How should you do it?

Should you just continue your usual work or... Should you do somthing to draw back the readers?

Currently while I've been finding colleges, re-designing IftP, and in a drawing slump: Mohawk and The X Review have been on vacation. I want to bring all back on Halloween...So what's a good call?

I think you should send full color glossy posters to all your fans.

On a more serious note, give them an extra big issue. Maybe not too big, but maybe twice as big. Even though it's not reasonable, fans like justification as to why they had to wait so long. It doesn't have to be themed (like for Halloween) but sometimes that helps too. Plus it gives the impression that you were planning it all along!

I sorta joked about my summertime hiatus ... is there some way you could try something like that maybe?

I introduced a new logo, added actual word balloons to the strip, and fully finished setting up my site after my two month hiatus. That seemed to appease the teeming masses.

"And thus I conclude my 2 month story arc. That was the best thing I've ever done! Wasn't the ending hilarious and insightful of today's lack of cultural identity? (If you couldn't see the comics, then it's possibly your firewall. YOUR fault.)"

Just say you drew comics for your updates, but were just too lazy to update them, like me.

That's how I do it. Though I usually explain why I was away for so long.

Redo the whole format of your comic without warning right in the middle of a storyline. For instance, you could go from this to this!

...I'll let you know if it works. :-?

When I started again after taking a month off to write my honors thesis this spring, I just continued the comic like nothing happened, but put up some extra bonus material on the return day to say "thanks for sticking around/coming back".

Make changes to the comic that you think are necessary (or one's you want to make) If your readers have suggestions, maybe do some of those. I'm not saying appeal to your "fan-base" (or whatever you wanna call it) but sometimes they do have good ideas...

Tell your readers that you have been hard at work at your most exciting storyline to date. Then inform them that the legal test for obscenity is based on the work "as a whole" and your lawyer suggested you finish the entire chapter before putting it online so that he could determine if it was legally obscene. Well, apparently the new chapter was obscene. Too bad. The lawyer also said it met the legal criteria for awesome.

Good question! When you find the answer tell KKB! Then mabey she'll update for once!

Whoa I think I'll do that. I'm about to come off hiatus after a lot of schoolwork and such.

But yeah what I do is just continue updating, and act like nothing happened.
