OMIGOD! :o

*cries for half an hour like Gwyneth Paltrow at the Oscars*

That's a really warm and encouraging article! I was really worried when I read your post, because I am afraid of reviews. I never thought that the comic could appeal to anyone except gamers, and art is definitely not its strong suit - so I expect people who can draw to throw tomatoes :)

Thanks, Damonk!

Now, just because I have only barely any posts does not mean you can exclude me from that PREview too! Silly veteran pig-dogs. I demand notice!

Oh the other note, I felt the exact way Gianna did when I saw that review. It made my week. So congrats to the authors of Stuff of Legends and The Noob, for a job well done!

Uh oh...that last comment...we're not doing it too MUCH, are we, to the neglect of other webcomics? (Maybe this is the wrong forum to ask that in.)---Al

It's not that... when grading, say, sites on geocities, angelfire, and tripod, you aren't going to intentionally try to make it even. You're not going to say, "Although I feel these four sites on geocities are the best of them all, I must include these sites from angelfire and tripod, even if they aren't as high-quality, because it wouldn't be fair to angelfire and tripod otherwise. All Keenspace is is a hosting site, at its most quintessential form. Same with Drunk Duck. Independent sites are no different. I mean, if you're just looking in the Keenspace guide to find PREviews, that's not good. But if you're willing to look at everything, and it just so happens that the comics you picked are all on Keenspace, so be it.

My humble apologies, Jigglyman! You're still fairly new on the forum that I didn't realise you and Alan Anderson were one and the same!

Hey, good comics are good comics no matter what host they exist on... (or so someone over at Keenspot forums was drumming into me)

By the way, Al... Since the Comixpedia staff get complimentary Graphic Smash subscriptions, maybe you should consider PREviewing the new batch of GS comics coming up? We've got around five or six new ones, I believe.

Specifically maybe Little White Knight or Magellan...?

 I am incorrigible!!

Actually, I don't need a Graphic Smash subscription for Magellan, I'm one of its biggest fans. (AND the only one to contribute guest art so far...)
An idea, a good idea.
I'm also looking through the Wirepop stuff, some of which I'm a fan of (Lotte and the Dead, especially) and DAns L'Metro (LOOOOVE the artwork and the coloring.).---Al

*grin* I know what you mean. Most of us never had the chance to get PREviewed when we started out.

Of course, now we can hypothetically get REviewed...

Or so we hope.

Being that Keenspace is still the largest webcomic host, that kinda has the logic. It's hard to track the exact number, but I wouldn't be surprised if at least half of webcomics is hosted on Space.

Oh, great. Now I gotta go to "Thanks to Phalanx" thread again.

P.S. I liked the article very much.
For all the recent growing hubbub about webcomics and their place in the Serious Art World, sometimes it's nice to be able to forget about striving for "award-winning" quality or mindboggling innovation. Rather than study and dissect the Professional Aspirants out there, sometimes you just want to enjoy a nice, simple laugh.
I can't say how much I agree with the idea of reviewing comics that aren't all so popular and tagged as masterpieces. Little guys deserve it too. :D

Glad to hear that you guys are happy with the reviews.

I never have an agenda beyond offering an honest opinion when assigning review targets or reviewing stuff myself. I do one of three things, typically:

1) search for webcomics that fit the loose theme of the issue
2) go completely random and pick stuff from different hosts or through a Google-esque search
3) pick stuff that I read/am aware of that I personally feel deserves a review (whether it be good or bad)

In the case of these three comics, they all happened to be recent finds that I enjoyed, and that deserved to be pointed out to the general public. In the end, all that matters to me is that I am doing my best to give a fair chance to pretty much everything out there.

As for the KSpace connection, my thoughts are as follows: I make no notice of any comic's affiliation when selecting review targets, especially when it's purely a hosting affiliation. Keenspace, Drunk Duck and other hosting providers are not in themselves an invite-only collective, and thus I don't feel that I am being biased if a number of comics I review/assign happen to be from one hosting provider over another. As far as I'm concerned, the three I chose for this PREview session are all indies who happen to share the same host, just like we all happen to be sharing teh same Intermaweb. :)

Yep. My thoughts. Again, glad to hear that you guys liked the reviews, and I hope that you get a few more readers out of it.

And crap! I can't believe I forgot to include a Magellan preview! It was on my list, too!! I'll have to rectify that soon!!!

Well, to be honest, popularity is never a concern for me in terms of review targets.

However, one thing that does concern me is that I feel a lot of webcomicverse people are forgetting our Comic STRIP roots.

People have been so wowed by innovation and the ability to present serial graphic storytelling in a variety of formats that they are forgetting the pure and simple joy of sitting down and enjoying a nice FUN 5-second read.

Story has really taken the forefront of webcomic direction (even I've been affected by that -- my comic started out as "mostly gag-a-day", but now it's become a huge epic story... :o ), and few people nowadays stick to the basics (which are actually quite difficult) by offering new and fresh jokes and punchlines with each strip, not really worrying about 'plot' or 'story' or 'thematic development'...

So yeah, sometimes I like to remind people that you can still enjoy some nice old school fun. And it's always so refreshing for me to find webcomics that offer exactly that. :)
