Sentient Rewind's Character War

Post by Underbelly »

So, check this out: http://geocities.com/sentientrewind/charwar.htm

I found this when checking over my recent referrers. If you look at the second to last match on the page, you'll see that it was my Saul versus Raven from Silence The Killer.

Where to begin with this? Sure, it burns me that Saul lost, after all, he is a badass, and no one can take him. That's not the point though. The thing is, I didn't hear anything about this untill it was already over. And the guy running this site didn't even tell me he wanted to use my character in his little character battle thingy. Now, I love it when people link to me, they are my heroes. But I find it weird that this guy has set this up with a comic that no one has heard of, like mine. If I'd been told, hell, I could've sent all five of my readers to vote for Saul, but I got nothing.

I can understand if he's not going to track down the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog and tell him he's using the character, but this is webcomics. We share this stuff with each other, we ask permission; it's like a family with us, a big, unstable, emotionally abusive family. Maybe I wouldn't be so peeved if he had managed to generate a few referrals to my site, but I only got one.

I guess it all boils down to this: what the hell? I mean, I'm flattered that this guy wanted to use Hard Underbelly in some way, just when I'm flattered when anyone asks me if they can use a character of mine in a cameo or something, but he kind of went about it in a half-assed way.

Okay, I think I'm done ranting. If any of you are reading this, I'd like to hear from some of the other comics he's used, although I think Silence The Killer is the only other one hosted on Keenspace.

To be honest, why worry?

It's a guy and a few friends having some fun. The friends vote and that's that.

When I was in an Anime club in Fredericton, we did the same thing once just for fun. Forty or so people were voting to see which anime character would win in a battle against another.

It was for fun, and that was that.

Be flattered that you were picked from the thousands of webcomics out there by this small group of obscure people rather than feel insulted. Exposure is exposure, even if you only got one hit out of it.

yeah exactly. I thought of that, as well.

But it looks like all they do is put up a poll, and announce the winner. Nothing special or imaginative at all, really.

But still, a free reader is a free reader, right?

I guess he could have handled it better, is all. The people involved could've submitted some original art of their characters kicking ass, or each done one side of a fight or something.

Also, the pic is gone now, but I'm wondering if this guy relaized the picture of Sonic he had up yesterday was from some furry slash site, and Tails was doing something unspeakable in the foreground.

Uh...
You know that now the guys from that site are bound to find our forum, and you speaking about them behind their backs?
You are the Non. You must go now, and never return."

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

I'm not intentionally speaking behind their backs, I just don't care enough to speak to their fronts. I think the mark of true pettiness would be if I e-mailed them and complained. I don't care that much.

And actually, his tails weren't involved, thank god.

Forgot about that. I'll take on Rainbow Brite then. She's a blonde, and can be tricked into drinking a lye milkshake.

And Hello Kitty doesn't?

When your merchandise empire includes soap dispensers and internet hubs, I think that speaks for some serious occult power.
