Time: We all need but none have...

Post by [AlmightyPyro] »

Ok, recently I've had a problem with time. Why can't I find time to draw my comics?! It's impossible! I know a bunch of you know what talking about (*cough*continue my story*cough*). But there are always those who have time. I'm in highschool and have no time. How do ye elders do it?!
I'm glad 90's style forum signatures don't exist anymore.

For me, it's summer....

...but even at one of the world's fastest-paced high schools, I've always had time to sneak in doodles here and there.
Is cleaning up after your past self dishonest or just prudent?

I'm not sure, but I'm doing it in hopes it's the latter. [Signature deleted.]

I wish I had more time.
Though I would if I posted on forums less.

I don't sleep more than 5 hours a day. I live 10 minutes away from work, and I do most of my daily posting while my boss isn't looking. I got home, cook a nice energy boosting meal, followed by aerobics, I then do what art needs to be done that day (Tuesday and Thursdays and Fridays I work on comics, Monday and Wednesday I do house cleaning and charcoal work). The Weekends I don't do my desk job, which leaves almost all sunday to do Monday's comic, unless I have a commision job I'm working on (Like at the moment I'm doing a Harry Potter Mural for my Mother's Grandchildren playroom) Saturday's I normally hang out with friends, do any shopping I need to get done and Sunday mornings I have Dog Handleing Classes. Every once in a while, instead of painting commisions or hanging with my friends, I have actual dog shows where I spend hours grooming dogs and then minutes showing said dogs to judges. Then on Saturday nights, about twice a month, I work my part time job. All in all, I drink a lot of Mt. Dew and other caffine filled goodies and lots of Sugar. And a good dinner helps. (even though sometimes my dinner contains cookies and cereal...)

I draw the comics in class during a boring lecture, perfect/redraw them during art class where there's plenty of materials for me to use, then do all the computer work (loading and such) when I get home.

Well, that was in high school. I don't know how it'll work once I'm in college. But hey, my dorm hall has an art studio, so it can't be that bad!

What he said....

I have so much stuff to do, SO MUCH STUFF! There's so much work involved in a mod, SO BLOODY MUCH! >.<

That, and of course the comic, which is always a lot of work. However during the week I work on the mod, comic's for weekends, it's a good strategy that always keeps me on edge (and late). However I stopped work today since Maya was starting to act up, I flicked through my browsers before getting ready to reset (there's always a piece of reference I forgot to save or bookmark) and then BAM! - Forums. Right there in front of me. The reply button... it calls to me... Must... Click... @_o

I'm so weak ;-;

i have a fulltime job - fortunately the working arrangement is 'flexible' so it's not a rigid 9-5. like cj, i don't need much sleep and it doesn't take me long to get to and from work. so when i get up in the mornings i often do an hour before getting ready for work, when i get home i might do an hour or two before i have dinner and then an hour or so afterwards if i'm really feeling up to it. the flip side is that i don't watch much telly, don't play any vid games and have an erratic social life! i don't know whether to :lol: or :cry: ... the saving grace is that i love cartooning so much it's the full-time job that feels like a chore... the cartooning sparks me right up.

It's summer break, and I stay home all day, with nothing to do but draw and write science fiction stories and maybe play some computer games and such. Plus, I always make sure to keep at least a month's worth of buffer in front of me, so as to give me enough time to draw lots of comics.

I started with a large buffer, and have been producing comics ever since, so I'm never behind. That means I've always got plenty of time till the next deadline - even though the comic updates daily.

Oh, and they're all very quickly drawn and lettered - it shows. Most of the strips look ugly as all heck. Yeah. Cheap, soviet-style quantity-over-quality kind of stuff. That'd definitely be a factor.

maybe the real problem is that you're not enjoying writing the comic? i figure, if you enjoy an activity, you'll make time for it, no matter what.
maybe you're in a slump in the story? if doing the comic is a chore instead of a recreation, take some time off. do some random art, or guest art. take a weirdarse story tangent. change your drawing style. change some significant part of the process to give yourself something stimulating.

You could always bottle your energy and sell it as a potent narcotic. Sheesh! Talk about cramming.

Me?

I've got a full time job, I run a personal business on the side, have three cats, a red-headed fiance', and a f'ng wedding in four months. Four? Wait... *counts* three months, three weeks. Gak. And on top of that, I'm the kind of person who really feels best rested with 6-8 hours of sleep (I can do 4-5 for a few days but then have to catch up, so it averages out).

My comic and my posting gets eeked out in between putting out fires and upgrading the network at work.

Lately I've been finding it hard to do my comic. I work a 8-5 job most days; and by the time I get home I'm too exhausted to really draw. I plan to work on pages gradually through the week and then on my days off do the finishing touches.

I only update once a week!

Actually I've found that if I sit in front of the TV, I'll finish a comic quickly in order to distract myself from the especially terrible TV shows...

You'd think I'd have more time because I'm unemployed....somehow, it was easier to draw during school. At least, when I had two hour lectures to draw during. ;}
