Domain Pointing.

Post by Waf »

I bought a Domain for my comic while ago and I'm hoping to be able to set it as my keenspace domain. Basically I guess what I'm asking is what steps do I need to take to do this, and what do I need to ask Kisai to do.

I've looked back a few pages and went through the FAQ and I couldn't find anything on exactly how to do this. Thanks for you help.

Kisai is the admin with the power to help you.

Be very nice to her and ready art in appreciation.

I'd write a tutorial about this, but I don't know how to do this myself.

I'll have to ask Kisai this one too... I just bought http://www.thejaded.co.uk

There's two things to do with your domain. Set the domain to point at the nameservers ns3.keenspace.com and ns4.keenspace.com and then request that Kisai do her funky stuff.
That's about it.

... and produce artwork for her. Apparently none of this is automated and she has to do each of the requests by hand.

Ok, I found out how to do this: You go to your domain hosting company, look for an option to change nameservers, and have them point to

ns3.keenspace.com
ns4.keenspace.com

If they ask for IP addresses they are:

66.220.2.3
66.111.40.192

I got room for 4 name servers. Do I fill those values in for number 3 and 4?

two name servers is all you really need. The other two can probably be left blank.

The other two can indeed be left blank. They're for redundancy.

Ah ok, btw I got a domain via yahoo. Also by doing this I broke the email that came free with the domain. I'm guessing keenspace doesn't want to run as a mail server for me so basically does anyone know how I can recover my email and still do this?

Not always. In my case they wouldn't let me leave em blank and I had to bug Kisai and Kelly for the IPs

I think Warren means (and he's right) that they are redundant as far as the internet is concerned. The company you bought your domain from and who is handling the nameserver settings might well require you to put in all four entries, but the world only requires two nameserver entries for your domain.

Domain and Nameservers

Post by EmergencyExit »

I used these posts here to try and figure out what I needed to do for my domain (eecomics.net) to go to my keenspace comic (emergencyexit.keenspace.com). I have the two nameservers in that was posted above, but how do I go about contacting the mighty Kisai you speak of to do her "funky stuff" to make this work? And I'm sorry if this is an annoying post, really. After spending many hours on this I'd love to get some help, thanks for everyone's time.

I have the same request: I've gone to manage.opensrs.net and pointed my domain http://www.nonemorecomic.com to ns3.keenspace.com and ns4.keenspace.com, and I need someone at Keenspace to go ahead and route it to nonemore.keenspace.com....please?

There is a thing known as a MX record that has to be pointed back to the MX server, if you have free email with your domain you need to tell us the MX server as well.

Wait 24 hours, see if it resolves (you should get your site) then tell me so I can change it so autokeen uses the right links.

Also , put the ad at the TOP of the page ASAP!

I'm not sure what you mean by getting my site, does these mean something will appear when I type in my domain URL?

Also, it is a for sure requirement for the ad to be at the top of the page? How disappointing, I'm seriously depressed about this, because this means I have to make a whole new site design now. May I have like a week or so to get this all together? I'm sorry for being trouble, I really wish it didn't have to be at the top, but now I'm just whining.
