Legostar Galactica Approaching 2 years!!!

Post by Dr Legostar »

Now before you freak out, Legostar Galactica is indeed digital pictures of lego characters with word bubbles. I don't draw well, yet, someday maybe. But it pokes good fun at Star Trek and Star Wars and any other sci-fi franchise I can make fun of. (Also makes fun of other stuff, but that's more of a background thing).

Honestly I'm not sure how long I've been on keenspace, I was putting up my comic before I had an account, and I just uploaded all the old ones as I kept making new ones, but as far as the comic goes there's nearly 2 years worth, five days a week.

Anyway, check it out, it's at http://legostargalactica.keenspace.com , I hope it's enjoyed. Note: It is a PG comic, featuring graphic language, violence, blured lego nudity, and adult situations, such as doing taxes. (I'm kidding, there are no taxes involved.. though now that I think of it...)

I just got myself signed up on the forums and in addition to plugging my comic I was hoping someone could tell me how I could get my own forum for my comic.

Good luck and good reading to you all.

negate the forum question

Sometimes I don't find things on forums very quickly, forget I asked about getting my own comic forum, I found the notice.

Wereas the "pictures of lego characters with word bubbles" didn't sound too promising, I have to say that it was your username that made me look. (I was all like, "legostargalactica? WTF? Is he making a BattleStarGalactica parody with legos?")

And I don't regret it.
Perhaps it's that I'm just a sucker for anything Sci-Fi, or that I like LEGO even though I have no time(nor the money) for it anymore...
But I found it funny and interesting. Makes me want to build my own spaceship >.<

Perhaps I'd like to see some more variaton, like various panel sizes and page layout, or camera angles, shouldn't be difficult since you don't have to draw anything (on the other hand you could have to rebuild the sets), but then again it may be just me.
And the wordbubbles could use a bit of antialiasing (blur).

Anyways, good luck for LegoStar, and I reccomend the comic to any SF or Lego junkie.
You are the Non. You must go now, and never return."

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

Thanks for the kind words.

YarpsDat: The constant panel sizes and things like that are due mostly to it's easiness. Obvioulsy someone who is taking pictures of legos is into saving time :) I don't have a lot of time actually, so it works out for simplicity. I'm working on being able to do more with camera angles, it's not hard for me to build full sets, i have one of the bridge in fact and sick bay and engineering are pretty complete, it's more of a matter of where to store them when I'm not making comics, they tend to take up a lot of space, but soon I'll be able to remedy that. As for the blocky word bubbles... well that's actually intentional, as my characters and sets are all blocks, i figured the word bubbles should be too, the only reason the writing isn't is because I like comic sans and it's easy on the eyes.

we don't need none of your pesky panel sizes. Nah I can see what Yarps means. It does seem to be very "static" I'm not sure how hard it is to diffrent types of motion and fluid stuff with Legos, but with photoshop or some such you could do some neat effects.

over all I liked it. Not so much that I can give any help one way or the other.. but like Yarps I love me some scifi and mixed with humor even better.

I kept remembering that KMFDM Legos comic that they had posted on the Kmfdm.net site a while back, wish it was still up cause they did do a lot of very neat backgrounds and motion effects.

keep up the good work and here's to another unknown amount of time at keenspace. ^_^

it's a work in progress

I'm still working out some photoshop effects that I like and dislike, as you can tell from time to time as I experiment at random. I'm really quite dissatisfied with my current motion technique of having two similar poses overlap and one slightly transparent, it's hard to take two pictures with everything the same except one little guy moving or something. I guess if i could find a tiny tripod for my digital camera it might work better.

Are there any photoshop effects I've used that any of you really like? or really hate? or can anyone suggest anything cool I might have more luck with?

On the note of photoshop effects, have any of you out there found a add on or plug in or something called Eye Candy? I used to have it and now I don't after transfering to a different computer several times and I can't for the life of me find the disk from which I installed Eye Candy, it had all sorts of nice fire and lightning, among other, effects.
