Have your characters ever come to life?
So this was weird... I was at a red light yesterday, and I looked in the mirror, and there was a woman in the car behind me who was the exact image of Kess from my comic (minus the ears, of course). Has this ever happened to anyone else? Have you ever seen someone who, if they made a movie of your comic, would be the perfect casting choice for one of your characters?

The last time I stared at the sun moving through a cloud, it kinda looked like Abol.Ian the Scribe wrote:So this was weird... I went to the fair recently, and saw a carnie who would be PERFECT for the role of Shirtless Bob (The weird thing was, he was *ALSO* sporting quite the white-man afro, so he was more like a mix between Steve and Bob. And yes, it was quite a scary sight.)

Yes, unfortunately, they have. It seems like everywhere I turn, they keep showing up. This guy in my history class and this girl from psychology both look like my main character.
Not to mention, a guy from math class bears somewhat of a resemblance to my favourite character, which has caused me to become moderately obsessed with him and any other Asian guy with the name of Ian (yes, I'm gay, kids
). So do quite a few other guys I've seen. And then, another guy from my math class looks like my main character's boyfriend. My art teacher looks like one of the characters' brother.
The teacher in my comic looks like this old woman who keeps hitting on my dad. Any pale girl with long black hair reminds me of my other male character. In fact, I look quite a lot like one of my characters (my avatar), but so does any other Asian guy with spiky-ish hair and glasses.
Aaaaah, no, they're coming to life and out to get me!

I was at a rave a fort-night ago and met a girl who looked exactly like Karen from my comic. Kinda acted like her too, but not slutty...

I believe the original Mouse used to be a member of my gaming group. Then he ran off to play the Buffy and Star Wars D20 RPGs. Reportedly, he still acts the same, now he just does it (or rather, doesn't) with a stake/lightsaber instead of a broadsword.Jim North wrote:I met the human version of Mouse a few months after I started up RotD. He's in the same acting class at the college with my girlfriend. Weird.

Faith is what credulity becomes when it finally achieves escape velocity from the constraints of terrestrial discourse- reasonableness, internal coherence, civility, and candor. Thus, the men who commited the atrocities of September 11 were neither cowards nor lunatics of any sort, but Men of Faith- perfect faith- and this, it must finally be acknowleged, is a terrible thing to be.

I think all the Mouses of the world are actually part of a secret society, sent to watch the rest of us as we play. They're secretly plotting to harvest the best and brightest gamer brains for some unholy purpose known only to them.
I figure they eat said brains, myself, since some of them I've met have this hungry, desperate look in their eyes. I used to think it was just because they wanted to be truly accepted into any social clique that would take them, but now, obviously, I believe it to have been something far more sinister . . .

All the time. In fact, the first time I saw Gavin Rossdale my brain fell out, because he looked very much like a human version of my Eryk (the guy in my sig link) especially when he had red hair. He's not his body type or anything, but the face is right. It was creepy. But funny, especially as that particular character would rather shoot himself in the face than sing. Whenever KW and I come across stuff like this, we generally use it as torture material for said characters pointing and mocking them.
Theres lots of 'Oh, that's so them!' moments, kind of everywhere we look. But that's why there's archtypes, I guess. I enjoy everything being an in-joke, it makes life more fun.

As authors it is our duty to create lovable enticing characters, and do horrible evil things to them.
