my dayleytemplet is not working with /d/

all right i put my comic into workspace/comics and let it update, but when it updates there is no new html in /d/ so people can not see my older comics. is there's a chance that i could have deleted a file or something. if you need to look go to http://happybutdead.keenspace.com. some one help me PLZ![/url]

Do you have more than two comics? The navigation buttons took me to your previous comic:

And this worked just fine, but it was marked as your first comic as well. If you only have two comics, this is as it should be. If you have more than two comics, then you have a problem.

If it's the 'more than two' answer, the same thing happened to me once. I pulled my comics out of public_html\comics and put them back in workspace\comics, wiped the stuff out of \d and \w, and then did a manual Full update - it restored my archives.

I need a little bit of help here myself... my comic updates no problem, i upload and the strip itself shows up. the problem is is the index.html isnt changing. ive made so many changes to the index, the template and the daily template, but everytime it updates, all i get is a new strip and the page still looks like crap. it wont add all the extra html work ive done to it.
and yes, ive gone to manual update, and updated the FULL thing, not just the strip. any help? pleez? Nowhere else on this site seems to help me with this kinda prob..

I've been trying to wrangle this same problem for the past four days.

My webcomic isn't creating any new pages in the /public_html/d/ folder using the dailytemplate.html file.

I've deleted any modifications I've made to the indextemplate.html and dailytemplate.html files and re-uploaded the originals in hopes of fixing any damage I may have done, and also deleted all of my archived comics and re-uploading them into the workspace/comics folder, then ran a full update, only to have the same problem again (no archived pages.)

Can somebody please help?

PS: My site's URL is classmishaps.keenspace.com. In addition, I cannot access the indextemplate.html file through my browser, but it does show up on the ftp server.

Blank stare: Your indextemplate.html and dailytemplate.html are both default. It doesn't look like you've changed anything on them. If you are actually editing index.html you should stop because that file is being generated for you and gets replaced every time you update. Only edit indextemplate.html and dailytemplate.html and upload them to /workspace, not /workspace/webpages (if you're doing that).

TruPhan: I'm not seeing your /workspace/dailytemplate.html. That's probably why you aren't getting any /d/ pages. Make sure you upload to /workspace/dailytemplate.html.

I know that the source on my site looks default. cuz for some weird reason the keen system thingie isnt detecting my templates. I can email them to you and show that i have done work on them, changed them and evertyhing. Im looking at them right now, with my changes on em.. I double checked, and they are inside the workspace folder. i run updates and itts like its not detecting the new templates.. any idea why it might be doing that? thanks for the assistance..

That's the reason they look like the defaults, because they actually are the defaults. I re-uploaded them in case any modifications I made to my indextemplate or dailytemplate were hindering keenbot.

Also, I haven't been editing the index.html or uploaded anything to the wrong folder. I'm at a complete loss here as to what I can do to fix this. I've tried everything. I'm getting the feeling that my account needs to be rebooted or something so I can start from scratch with this.

However, at one point, the /d/ folder was archiving pages, but I deleted a page and its comic. Could this be the source of the problem, and if so, how can it be fixed?

Deleting files from /public_html/d/ and /public_html/comics is how you correct problems like doubled up comic images and such. So no, that's probably not it.

When I checked for /workspace/dailytemplate.html it returned a 404 not found so I assumed that was the problem. It wasn't the default. It wasn't anything. With no dailytemplate.html it would make sense there would be no /d/ pages being generated. An inventory of what is where on your FTP site might help. Basically, you should verify that everything is in the right place and that the files you are seeing are the ones you expect to be there.

You changed your WWW button so I don't have your site anymore, btw.

Nothing that I'm doing is working, and in my attempt to fix it, I deleted everything from my images folder in the public_html folder. Now my images won't re-update (instead, it just puts a file named nosteal.jpg inside the folder) in addition to AutoKeen refusing to create new pages in the /d/ folder.

Is there a way I can just have my account rebooted? What if I just deleted everything, had AutoKeen delete my account, then have it re-activated? I just don't think there is any way to repair the problem anymore.

Okay, using /workspace/webpages in your links is a no-no. The reason you upload to /workspace in the first place is because you want autokeen to parse your files and put HTML code into them. If you link to those pages, you'll still have the ***tags***. Your links MIGHT work but I wouldn't bet on it.

All the files from /workspace/webpages will be copied by autokeen into /public_html. /workspace/indextemplate.html will become /public_html/index.html and /workspace/dailytemplate.html wil become /public_html/d/*.html

The part that doesn't make sense to me is that your images should be working correctly (In dailytemplate.html these should be "/images/cell_title_background.gif", not the beginning '/'). Either the image file is damaged (uploaded as ASCII instead of binary), you've used the wrong extension (which actually won't matter for <img tags), or you've deleted the symbolic link from /workspace/images to /public_html/images.

Check your /public_html/images directory to see if the files are actually present and that they're not 0 bytes or something weird like that. You won't be able to check them directly using the web browser because the images directory can't be hotlinked.

Okay, so I've changed my links so that they don't link to /workspace/webpages/, but since I don't have any other webpages up yet, those links will of course not yet work.

However, here is a rundown of problems that I still have that blatantly refuse to go away:

- AutoKeen still won't archive my the dailytemplate pages of my comics in the /d/ folder, despite that it will archive my comics gifs in the /public_html/comics folder from /workspace/comics/.

So the following happens - I upload comicdate.gif into /workspace/comics/. I run a FULL PAGE UPDATE. AutoKeen archives comicdate.gif into public_html/comics/, but it does not create a corresponding page in /public_html/d/. However, my index.html still has First and Previous buttons that link to past comic pages had those pages been created.

This is odd and I don't understand how or why this would happen.

- My images still won't transfer from workspace/images/ to public_html/images/. I can manually transfer them, however, and this would seem to work fine, but I am uncomfortable with the idea of tampering with this. I am unfamiliar with what the symbolic link for the image folders is, and if I have deleted it, how would I go about repairing this?

These are not problems I had initially with the account, but there seems to be no remedy. All the help is appreciated, though I believe the best course of action is to simply "reboot" my account as it looks as though that there isn't a problem with the arrangement of files of folders in the account but the way that AutoKeen is updating. I have everything backed up on my computer ready to upload, all I need is a new account to start with. I'm willing to have anyone look at my html to see if that may be the problem, but I don't see how.

Again, any and all help is appreciated and I thank you for your time with this. It means a lot.

There are a couple actually. The most common one is ***big_calendar*** Next is ***daily_archive*** which just listed the day of week, month name day, year as a hyperlink. ***big_calendar*** just looks nicer.

A second method is to use the storyline dropdown.txt. The howto can be found above. It looks complicated but it's really quite simple:

The format is like this if you just want to list your pages.
section name,link to file
section name,line to file

example)
Page 1,/d/20030602.html

Page 3,/d/20030606.html

The format is like this if you want sections:
section name,link to file
subsection name,link to file
subsection name,link to file

example:
Chapter 1,/d/20030602.html

Second Story Arc,/d/20030628.html
Chapter 2,/d/20030704.html
...

Save this in a text file and uploaded it as /workspace/data/dropdown.txt
The tags to get this to display are ***storyline*** to get a drop box that will take you to a selected page (ala Megatokyo or Penny Arcade). ***story_archive*** will make a list of links based on your dropdown.txt. AND you get to use two new nav buttons: ***storylinestart*** and ***startlinestarturl*** so you can do all kinds of cool things.

To my knowledge there isn't an archives page you have to make your archives page. as far as I know there are three ways to do this...

1) ***calendar*** sure ya seen this. its the calander that screens most webcomics have. and you can click on dates. (example )

2) hand made archive page. which is just a set of links, that go over all the archives, it probably isn't the best way, but I find it better in the long run, making it easier for readers to navigate but I'm sure a lot of people disagree with me. (example )

3) and finally the storyline drop down method for this method check out Ping's Workshop, as it goes over how do one of these. Dropdowns like the calandars can actually go right on the main page. Or you can combo the drop down with the calandar page as shown in the example below. (example )
