Actually, I think a lot of fantasy comics are basically RPG comics. Only a few of us actually make it about the roleplaying itself, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that any single comic about a group of adventurers going on an adventure is the in-character half of someone's RPG.Jim North wrote:[But, hey, if there are a ton of 'em out there, point me at 'em! That's one cliche I wouldn't mind drowning in.
Ayuh, that's what I figured, which is why I put in the "my ideas on just what makes an RPG comic an RPG comic are a bit more stringent than other peoples'" bit. I've come across a good number of these fantasy comics saying that they're RPG comics, quite often without ever explaining how they can claim that, and never putting RPG elements into it even if they do explain. I say that if you can sit down and read through the archives of comics and nothing else without running across a single RPG element, it's not a true RPG comic and the cartoonist should be beaten severely for false advertising.Sortelli wrote:Actually, I think a lot of fantasy comics are basically RPG comics. Mmm, ToG.And any geek comic worth its salt is going to feature RPGs as well.
Naaaah, they're just not breaking character. The rest of us who throw in the actual RPG mechanics are just being postmodern about it. Those comics are written by people who roleplay for people who roleplay.Jim North wrote:I say that if you can sit down and read through the archives of comics and nothing else without running across a single RPG element, it's not a true RPG comic and the cartoonist should be beaten severely for false advertising.
