Feh. Might as well. I also added a couple of new ones at the bottom.

The guy who can create any form of sci-fi technology (lasers, teleporters, etc).
Nope.

Universities.
Yup, but it's only been a sometimes used backdrop so far.

Talking pets.
Nope.

Megaman and Final Fantasy sprites.
Nope.

Fourth wall (lack of).
Never in the actual strips . . . only when I'm doing "RotD - Out Of Character", which are specifically made for my own whimsical fancy.

Manga.
Nope.

Lesbianism.
Nope. But that never gets old, dammit. ;)

The big dumb guy who means well.
Nope. The only dumb guy who means well that I have is a smaller fellah.

The nerd that by all rights should not have a date but woman literally fall over.
Nope. The nerds in my strip have as much trouble getting dates as nerds in the real world.

An evil villain that acts like a buffoon.
Nope, no evil villain at all.

Celebrity cameos.
Nope. And I've been going out of my way to make everything a slight parody of real world stuff, so if I ever do have a celebrity cameo, it'll be a spoof.

Big-breasted ladies with loose morals.
Nope.

And anything "goth".
Heh, nope, but with an RPG crowd, they'd probably fit right in. It's one of the few RPG player archtypes I haven't made any plans to tap into, tho'. Maybe I should, just for the hell of it.

Naked furrys instead of a good story.
Nope. I've got a couple of furries, but neither will be naked in the regular strips. One of them (a pudgy high schooler) you wouldn't want to see naked, anyway.

"At least it can't get any worse" followed by something worse.
Nope. Things getting worse usually drop in unannounced.

Wacky college roommates.
The main characters are roommates, but it's hardly mentioned. And it's more their non-roomate friends that are the wacky ones.

Smart and reasonable but very bad tempered female character.
Yup.

Gaming references.
Eh. Not vidgaming, no; but RPGaming, yes.

Amorous robots.
Egad, no.

Parodies of superheroes.
Nope. Not yet, anyway.

Parallel dimensions and a multiverse taken as a matter of fact, even as a "given".
Nope. Same as above.

Fanboy references to Trek, Star Wars, or Buffy.
Nope. As I said before, I'm making it a point to avoid real world products, so any references to those things would actually be references to parodies of those things.

Self-depreciating humor about how bad your art is.
In the comic itself, or elsewhere on the site? If in the comic, no. If elsewhere on the site, I used to, back when my art was bad. It's not gangbangers now, but it's to the point where I'm happy enough not to make self-depreciating humor about it now.

Young girl/boy DESTINED to be a princess/prince that saves the world and gets a gooey romance with some hot person.
Eh, no.

The token fanservice character.
Hah! Nope.

ELVES!! BLOODY ELVES!!
Nope. The only one around with pointed ears is Kat, and that's because she has cat ears, not elf ears.

Seems like Jesus pops up quite a bit.
Nope. Someone else will be popping up . . . another cliche, but not Jesus.

Computer game players who become heroes or otherwise extremely important to the fate of the <insert here>.
Nope. I'm not entirely sure if any of the characters even play vidgames or not. I'll have to think about that, actually, since I'll probably do a storyarc where the gang tries out a vidgame RPG based on a paper and pencil RPG . . .

Dark and Mysterious Past.
Nope.

Amnesia.
Nope.

Psycho Character.
Rabid.

Highly intelligent sarcastic character surrounded by idiots.
Jim.

Characters who wear sunglasses all the time, so you never see their eyes.
Jammer.

Dullard idiot characters who yell stuff like "MONKEYS!" and "PIE!" for no reason.
Dave.

Ultra-violent female characters.
Kat.

Shy characters who rarely, if ever, speak, but gradually come out of their shell more and more as the story goes along.
Mouse.

Super-hot babe that the main male characters have no chance of scoring with, yet they still try despite the fact that she treats them like dirt.
Kathy Smith.

Archnemesis.
Sage.

Dwarves being the first to die (fantasy in general actualy).
Nope. Informants are the first to die.

The unsufferable glass-wearing Know-It-All.
Compared to the people he's surrounded by, he does know it all.

The dark, stubble-chinned, sexy, brooding stranger. NEW!
Nope.

Trench-coat and fedora wearing detective. NEW!
Nope. Oh, wait . . . maybe he was a detective. I never thought about what his actual profession was. I'll say yes, then, just to be on the safe side.

Cat girls. NEW!
Yup.

Random violence in place of sophisticated humor. NEW!
Yes, but in my defense, I tried my best to link it to sophisticated . . . to sophis . . . oh, hell with it! Why deny it?! I've used random violence for cheap laughs! My life is a sham! *sob*

OH NOES! i STAB J00!!!!11 *stabstabstab*

Heh, seriously, tho', I've actually heard that from other people. I find it kind of odd, myself . . . I've done a good deal of searching for RPG-related webcomics since I first had the glimmering of making Role of the Die, and I've only been able to turn up a very few. I'm getting to the point where I think they're either all hiding from me, I'm just not looking in the right places, they all disappeared shortly before I joined the webcomic community, or my ideas on just what makes an RPG comic an RPG comic are a bit more stringent than other peoples'. :P

But, hey, if there are a ton of 'em out there, point me at 'em! That's one cliche I wouldn't mind drowning in. :D

Naked furrys instead of a good story.
Not *instead* of :D

"At least it can't get any worse" followed by something worse.
Probably, eventually.

Smart and reasonable but very bad tempered female character.
I think when you're smart and reasonable, and surrounded by people who aren't, you cannot help but be bad tempered. Oh, and eventually yes. Probably.

Gaming references (RPG/Computer).
Probably not, tempting though it may be...

Amorous robots.
NEVAR!! STAB STAB!1! ...I mean, no.

Parodies of superheroes.
Nope.

Parallel dimensions and a multiverse taken as a matter of fact, even as a "given".
*hangs head* We have a whole alternate storyline. Thats what happens if you base you comic on 'What If'. But dunno what we'll do with it, so probably won't show up in comic.

Fanboy references to Trek, Star Wars, or Buffy.
Alex is a Godfather fan... Does that count? Or FightClub?

Self-depreciating humor about how bad your art is.
On the LJ, yes.

Young girl/boy DESTINED to be a princess/prince that saves the world and gets a gooey romance with some hot person.
Not so much. If anything, just the opposite.

The token fanservice character.
Not yet, but she has a personality I *swear*.

ELVES!! BLOODY ELVES!!
Yes. But not in mass quantities.

Seems like Jesus pops up quite a bit.

NO

Ultra-violent female characters.
Yes. Yes, there will be.

Shy characters who rarely, if ever, speak, but gradually come out of their shell more and more as the story goes along.
Yes, few of those at some point...

Super-hot babe that the main male characters have no chance of scoring with, yet they still try despite the fact that she treats them like dirt.
Mmm... No. Oh wait, yes. Eventually. Except for the 'no chance' part...

Archnemesis.
...........Yes. Kinda.... but not really....

Dwarves being the first to die (fantasy in general actualy).
Never be riencarnated as a dwarf in a red shirt. Oh, and no.

The unsufferable glass-wearing Know-It-All.
Not really. no.

The dark, stubble-chinned, sexy, brooding stranger.
Nope. He's clean-shaven. And later.

Actually, I think a lot of fantasy comics are basically RPG comics. Only a few of us actually make it about the roleplaying itself, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that any single comic about a group of adventurers going on an adventure is the in-character half of someone's RPG.

And any geek comic worth its salt is going to feature RPGs as well.

I was gonna post my list but then I realized that basically I have to do all of that stuff, so yes to everything.

The ones I haven't done yet I'm probably going to use in the future.

Especially the bloody freaking elves, of course. If there is any moral to EOI, it is that elves must be made fun of. :D

Ayuh, that's what I figured, which is why I put in the "my ideas on just what makes an RPG comic an RPG comic are a bit more stringent than other peoples'" bit. I've come across a good number of these fantasy comics saying that they're RPG comics, quite often without ever explaining how they can claim that, and never putting RPG elements into it even if they do explain. I say that if you can sit down and read through the archives of comics and nothing else without running across a single RPG element, it's not a true RPG comic and the cartoonist should be beaten severely for false advertising.
And any geek comic worth its salt is going to feature RPGs as well.
Mmm, ToG. :D It's got more actual RPG stuff in it part-time than most supposed RPG comics have at all.

Naaaah, they're just not breaking character. The rest of us who throw in the actual RPG mechanics are just being postmodern about it. Those comics are written by people who roleplay for people who roleplay.

I'm fairly new at making my webcomic, and of course I want to be uber successfull like the rest of you here. So are these the cliches I need to add to my strip to make it more popular? I've already got a few, but do I need to add the rest or just a larger number of them?

My comic is fantasy, and it's not based on RPGs.

And my elves are cool. 'Cause they're cranky and there's no way you can count them superior to the humans or anything else in my comic.

My main character is a temperamental yet intelligent female. However, she's not reasonable in the least, so I guess she doesn't quite fit that cliche.

All of my characters are nuts in some way or another. I think the griffin and the vampire should be the most disturbing, since the griffin usually appears to be harmless, and the vampire has always seemed to be somewhat harmless.

Let's see here... sunglasses and a trenchcoat appeared on the vampire in the first few strips, but the pixie/human/elf hybrid (and you wondered why she was insane?) coaxed him to ditch them early on. An elf took those in exchange for a horse.
Is that so?
