Agreed - the previous strip where they got together is one of the cutest ones I've seen - reminds me of the first Pokemon Charmander ep...

Are there more gold coins where his payment to Quentyn came from?

Oh, I'm sure that there are more gold coins in the swamp, and someone who knew the swamp well could find them.

But what if, say, there was a large chest of them, say, too big for the "wee beasties" to retrieve?

Might she have to attempt to persuade something bigger?

Well, what do you know, Max? You were absolutely correct!!

Now, I have the feeling that Linneaus and the Gragum will appear again here....

...unless there are other creatures large enough to help? A kraken, perhaps?

Somebody put that treasure chest there. Maybe they did it a long time ago and it's lost and forgotten (she does say, after all, that the chest is rotting, and we can see some coins outside it). But it could have been put there more recently by someone who's going to want it back someday. That could be years hence when he goes back looking for it, or it could happen much sooner, because he has a ward or an observer on it, or perhaps sees (or kens) coins from his stash circulating in town. There is also the question of getting to it, what any assistant in that endeavor may expect in return for helping (or for keeping silent), and what other wards, traps, or other protections may be in place around the treasure.

So many questions.

I expect our little heroine's secret isn't going to last too much longer...

If she get the money to go to the city to have her tail fixed (and I am hopping that they are able to help her make it good as new), she can't keep it a secret from her parents.

And if she tries to but fails to control a Gragum or other large creature, I expect that it's going to take offence and come looking for her. Again, something that she can't keep from her parents.

(A horrible vision just flashed before my eyes. She tries to control a Gragum, fails, and is taken captive. Our almost forgotten hero is called in to rescue her again. She's already in love with him for the first rescue. Quentyn may be hard pressed to avoid a forced betrothal if he rescues her again! :D )

Well, she has to get the coins first. It's too far away and too big for her wee beasties to retrieve it.

Hmmm....maybe something bigger....a lot bigger.

But she is just a wee raconan herself. How would something big enough to haul a large treasure chest view her?

Who says she needs the whole (rotting) chest? Something that can burrow down (or through) and pick up the coins one at a time would do. It just takes a little longer.

But is she going to think of that?
