Maybe see if the two of them would be willing to combine forces and try for a third option? Sort of best of both worlds?
Yeah, i was about to suggest an RPin + Zhypoh cooperation too.
merging the best of the two would be excellent!
I think none of the designs are finished yet. Kisai said if mine gets chosen, the final result wouldn't probably resemble what I had in mind originally.
I am aware of the problems my layout has. I was talking to Terrence about this, and I even proposed to work together with him, seeing as he has better ideas than me concerning the general layout of the elements.
I should work with him, but truth is, I got disencouraged by the lack of perspective on this contest, seeing as there was no formal deadline. I just stopped caring about this. If I had the chance to do it again, I would take off the banner links, put the guide logo on top and the news and KSpot information besides the newsbox. Something like this:
I won't bother to change it on the actual layout because it wouldn't be fair do to so now. And if you guys think it would be a good idea if I worked together with someone else, I'd rather choose Terrence than Z.
I'd like to point out that on the 'Spot side, folks are leaning towards a modificaton of RPin's design. I have let them know about merging the two as discussed here.
Also, Chris has final say. I'm sorry if it's not clear. I felt that there was some urgency now.

I like RPin's design better. It makes Keenspace seem more like it's own thing, rather than just the tail that wags the Keenspot purebred. The speech bubble logo looks like somebody jut took the Keenspot stuff and recycled it...which implies that Keenspace means Nada to the Powers That Be.
Yeah, it's busy, and I would probably vote to ditch as much of that pink as we could as quickly as possible, but the kstar thingy makes up for the inherant and changeable flaws.

Coloring tutorial It's a little like coloring boot camp. Without the boots.

The biggest problem's not the pink/red, it's the green.
Like I told 'Pin before, it's just there. It's not a PART of the rest of the design. He's right that it's good to try and avoid doing a monocolor one, I can see his point there, and with just the red, it looks a little bland... but you can't just put extra color in there for the sake of having extra color. That's not enough. You have to make it a NECESSARY design element.
I much prefer RPin's design but I'm pretty sure I couldn't look at it for long, it's the huge contrast between light pink and complete black block that gets at my eyes. The big block of black's just too black, stands out really nasty.
The pink and green I don't mind, on my monitor the colours are quite mute so it actually looks quite nice. It's just those damn big black bars and light pink background...
Perhaps a gradient from dark red to near white up there instead? Everyone loves a gradient! It'd flow kinda well with all the stars and stuff...

Can you explain what you mean a little more clearly?
I've always been a fan of black/white/red/grey as a color combo. The old Fatoe.Compound pulled that off quite nicely for a long time. I don't like his new color scheme much, though.
It's not that the black is bad it's just there's too much of it.
This is what I had in mind for the title but I realise gradients aren't always practical, also tried out a few ideas on the other titles which sort of worked (and made the entire thing look like a hodge podge, I'm sure when the titles're uniform it'd look passable). They're half hearted stabs at ideas through a quick photoshop, I'm sure something more pleasing could be made. But as you can see there's fluidness, woo!
Well, in my opinion, RPin's site is too busy. I'm not sure if it's just the colours, maybe it's the shapes too... Personally I prefer a site that is more simple. But I'd agree with most of the people here, a combination of the two would probably be the best. Anyway, I vote for simplicity. Professional simplicity of course. One thing I would never go for however, is a site with a dark background and a light font. Well, that was my input.
