How about this for a logo?

It's funny because it's true.

Then a prominent KeenSPOT member piped in and said this would be a big mistake because of brand confusion.

Translation: "Make sure that everyone knows we're better than the comics on Keenspace."

Maybe that's because I like S-F, but I like the stars background.

Star backgrounds (or black backgrounds for that matter) just scream "Welcome to 1995" to me. Add a midi file on infinite loop and you've invented a time machine.

In all honesty, I hate the red. It's agressive instead of inviting. That's the color scheme we get to work with, though.

Red limits you to working with .gif because it doesn't compress well at all in .jpg format.

I liked RPin's design. The red/black/white gives it a retro 80s look. His Keenspace logo is pretty vibrant too. I still say we need a portal on the front page.

Needless to say with over 10000 comics on Keenspace it would be impossible to list them all in a portal, but perhaps we can create these genres:

Kids
Adventure
Geek (games/comp/etc.)
Science Fiction
Fantasy
Historical
Western
Drama
Romance
Action
Comedy
Undefinable
Naughty
Non-Fiction (edit: there, are you happy? )


Everyone pics the ONE and only one genre they feel best represents their comic and then using the guide the portal puts a link under that genre to the top 10 Keenspace comics by traffic in that genre and at the bottom a link that says MORE that takes you to a page that lists all the comics in that genre in simple alphabetical order, or in order of traffic.

I don't know how to actually program it to pull the data from the guide to do that but I'm Kisia knows how.

That way the Keenspace homepage will actually be working to promote the comics on Keenspace much like the Keenspot homepage does with its comics.

Yeah, make it so people have to pick what genre they belong to. That way you're more likely to get the comics that actually update and use the keenspace service for what it's meant to be used for.
Don't want all those unused accounts cluttering things up .

I was thinking just like that, too. But instead of a page that listed comics by genre, let's say, it displayed the top 25 comics according to the guide at that moment. Or even a new voting system, that ranked comics in the page independently of the guide.

Either way, I think it's a better idea to wait for the other contestants to show their works and decide who wins before pulling out anything more complicated. The newsbox needs to be revived before anything else, and I believe no contestant should deliver a completed page yet, as it will be better if he/she works together with Kisai and the other people who will take care of the page.

I don't see too many non-fiction comics.

There was an odd YAOI comic that had Hitler and Stalin as lovers but I'm pretty sure that was fiction.

No, 25 of all KSpace comics, regardless of genre.

I was just thinking that list 10 of each genre is too much, and will make the page too big, yes. Not to mention that there will always be someone complaining that his comic does not fill any of the given genres or will want to create a new one.

Phooey. It causes 72% fewer seizures than my super-flashing one. That's a pretty big improvement.

As for actual voting though, I think KKB is on to something, with War's modification to let "Space" be bigger.

Actually, RPin was the one that modified my design. The only reason I was 'stacking' Keenspace on top of each other is so it can be used easier. The only problem I have with designs that feature the entire word 'keenspace' written out fully is just that it's quite long and might make it diffuclt to put the logo in places that aren't wide enough. It's probably just a tiny problem. Anyway, I'll get around to re-working the design, and the stars/black background was only added because Kelly mentioned how they would prefer something space themed.... and... well... stars are about as spacy as your going to get without cluttering the background with anything really distracting.

That's a good idea, but it still limits the number of comics that receive exposure.

How about the top 5 comics of the genre that were updated on that day? The guide already recognises the updating today thing, it's possible....

Also, this way, comics that have stopped updating ages ago but still get lots of hits due to linkage won't swallow those very precious spots.
