Actually, I think, it can be proven there is no proof of God's existence, or nonexistence.Tenma wrote: Agnostics believe that the existence of God is not known, and some believe that there can be no proof either that God exists or that God does not exist.
Wait, are you sure? It's been a while, but I think Goobla had it right, at least that's what I was taught.Tenma wrote:This is an untrue statement.TheGoobla wrote:The difference between atheism, and agnosticism. And I quote:

And in your version, how would ones that believe there is no god would call themselves?

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Oo!
"What if we're just the latest in a long line of creationary revisions?"
Now I pose a deeper question: is every line identical or do variations occur in each?

Nah. Sounds too P.C.
Antitheists?
When I was a little boy, and I wrote my wery first neural network simulator, I often wondered what could it feel, and what would be its outlook on life. And what would happen when the user restarted the program?fi13r wrote: There's also the fact that nonexistance of oneself is a concept that the concious mind cannot rationally concieve of, because the concept is outside the concious mind.
Can you present self-nonexistence in a rational manner that the concious mind can grasp?
What would "I" feel if I was just a group of neurons on computer screen?
How many neurons would it take to actually feel something? 100? 1000? Couple of milions? Why that many?
And another food for though:
let's say the world is a game. Not a fancy 3D game, but a boardgame:
All the objects and all the people are represented by a piece of the board, some of them describe status of our bodies, and our minds soo.
There are cards, coins, tokens ect., indicating the current state.
There are certain indyviduals playing the game, and they have a big rulebook. A very BIG rulebook with tons of rules
ie. "If YarpsDat is logged onto the forum, and he thinks he posts, add one "post token" to the forum, substract 5 min from YarpsDat timeunits."
That way I would "think" I posted, without even posting anything. Actually everybody would think I posted something.
Would I even notice that if I was just a boardgame?
@_o
weird out. like peace out, but different ; )

Battleship ^___^
About that neural network... it wasn't really _that_ special. I was 8, or 9, and it was back in the 80's, I just got a computer and the games were on tapes, and it took 1 hour to load a game, so basicaly I just had to learn how to program the thing.
I mean, almost every kid with a computer could write a "pong" clone thoes days, and making a couple of "neurons" isn't that difficult if you do it at random.
Oh, lego was cool too. Battleships ^___^ (first space vessels, pirates later)
But I've grown up. Too bad I'm too poor to buy the programmable robot thingy(MindStorms), that's still cool.

Currently, yes. Agnostics believe that such proof can never be obtained.YarpsDat wrote:Actually, I think, it can be proven there is no proof of God's existence, or nonexistence.Tenma wrote: Agnostics believe that the existence of God is not known, and some believe that there can be no proof either that God exists or that God does not exist.
While dictionaries have a few different interpretations of the words Atheism and Agnosticism, they generally agree on the definitions I've given (Dictionary.com, for example.) It's not surprising that most people were taught a meaning that wasn't entirely accurate, given that these groups have never been very prominent, considering the religious majority.YarpsDat wrote:Wait, are you sure? People who actively believe there is no God can technically be called Atheists too, but like ArchVileTerror suggested, antitheist is a better term for them. And, yes, it is a word.
Too bad I didn't think to put that one in the poll. :-)
Later...

Tee hee.
God, I'm getting confused.
OOPS! I mean, "No one, I'm getting confused".

I believe in God. I also believe in karma. I also believe, that ones morals and values are derived from what they are taught as a child, so if a child is brought-up being told that killing's very normal, and is okay to do, then how can we criticize and call that child a monster, when it isn't even his fault that he believes that killing people's okay. That's why insanity's a viable defense in the courts, and that's why we don't go bombing other countries at random... Oops, the U.S. already did.

I think that the big problem with the premise of this topic is that fact that a lot of people don't understand the difference between atheism and agnostics. These people usually put all of the above under "atheism" as in all things non-monotheistic. But anyways, enough of my ranting.... I'm agnostic all the way....

Funny.
I thought gods devouring gods was a theme in several religions.
But what about a mortal devouring gods. Have there been any mythological or religious references to that?
