You're missing anti-Satanic necromancy!

I proudly support that belief structure. Just wish I knew more of it . . .

I'm not getting into anything about beliefs or anything like that, I'm just trying to get the facts straight from a philosophical and historic point of view.
go pick up the satanic bible by Anton LaVey. it's very interesting, a pretty quick read, and only like $10. er... this is where my info on satanism is coming from, by the way.

Ten dollars? You mean Satanists don't come to your door and give out free copies, like the Mormons or the Jehova's Witnesses?

Wouldn't it be ironic for a Jehova's witness to be talked to death?

I don't think it's just that it's "comforting." There's also the fact that nonexistance of oneself is a concept that the concious mind cannot rationally concieve of, because the concept is outside the concious mind.

Can you present self-nonexistence in a rational manner that the concious mind can grasp?

Executor_Arthas wrote:Wouldn't it be ironic for a Jehova's witness to be talked to death?
No, I believe that would be coincidental. It would only be ironic if Witnesses were assured a longer life the more other people talked to them, and while I'm not a Witness, I'm pretty sure this isn't the case.

Sure.

I've tried, Filer, and it scares me. What scares me the most is that when it happens, I won't feel it, or feel anything. It will be as if I never existed, as if nothing ever existed. To me, though, this is an insufficient selling point for religion. Too often people want to establish their permenance, be it through everlasting life in heaven, their grand deeds on Earth remembered by generation after generation, or by some monument, be it a statue in Grant Park or a headstone. We're all going. Scary, I know, so it's only human to want to do something to preserve ourselves. In this way, I think early religion was rather exploitative of people's fears, promising believers with eternal life and virgins if they believe, threatening fire and dookie if they don't. These days, I think anyone's spirituality should be based on a state of mind. Finding a strategy to exist. If you want to follow Christ or Buddha or Muhamad, do it because it's a way of life that makes sense to you, because it makes you a better person. But I dunno. That's just me.

I agree with Duff. I'm an athiest, but I'm also moralistic when it comes to things. In real life, I really don't like being mean to people, and I don't think it's good to hurt others. But this isn't because some god said it was bad. I just don't like it. I've always been on the belief that you shouldn't need a reason to not do something bad. You just don't need a reason to do it in the first place. I personally don't think there's anything after you die. To be honest, I think the meaning of life is nothing. There's no point to it, it's just a bunch of random chemical reactions that happened to get caught in a never-ending loop. But hey, you know, that doesn't mean you can't enjoy it while you're here. Actually, if I believed in anything religious-like, it would probably be reincarnation, but not in a 'past lives' sence. I just think then when you die, there's no consious anymore, so you can't even feel being 'dead'. Actually, you can't even exist without being consious, so as soon as you die, you become 'aware' as a new person. I don't really know how you end up where, or how it works exactly, I just feel that in general, since you can only feel anything if you're consious, then you can't exist without being consious. In other words, "you" will always be consious, just experiancing it from different perspectives throughout time. I don't believe in that stuff about recalling past lives, cause my opinion doesn't involve a transfering of sprit, it's simply based on a theory that you HAVE to exist, because you can't not-exist, because then there would be no you to not exist. It's hard to explain, but that's my view on things, anyway.

The difference between atheism, and agnosticism. And I quote:

"Agnostics don't believe in God. Atheists believe there is no god."

So... go agnosticism! I just don't have the arrogance it takes to make a leap of atheistic faith.

Put it on a grander scale. Nothing will last forever. by year 10^100 the last black holes will have evaporated, the last star will have died... heck, the last proton will have decayed. There will be nothing left and nobody to look at it.

On a related note....
some dude on usenet wrote:A group of people found themselves up to their waist in a sea of shit, that stretched on for miles and beyond the horizon.

One of them stood there, cleaning and tidying himself, patiently believing that eventually someone would come by and dig him out of the shit. A small group of the people followed in suit.

Another of them, figured no one would come, and started trying to dig himself out of the shit on his own. A small group of the people followed in suit.

Another person waded through the sea of shit, and started chatting with everyone else.

The two other groups saw what they were doing.

The group trying to dig themselves out said "What are doing? Don't you know that if you help us, we could all be out of here sooner?"

The group waiting for someone to come by said, "What are doing? Don't you know that if you don't clean yourself off, when help arrives they may turn you away?"

The group trying to dig themselves out said to those waiting, "When help arrives? Look around you! I see no help, and neither do we! Surely, there can be no help but what we do for ourselves!!"

And those waiting for help to arrive said to those digging, "Help yourselves? Look around you! For as far as the eye can see, there is no place for us to go! The only ones that can help us, are beyond this sea of shit!"

Thus did these two groups continue to bicker, while the third still waded about chatting as if nothing were amiss, and so it was, until the end of their days.
The moral: Shit happens.

This is an untrue statement.

The word atheism itself means the lack of belief in a god. The prefix "a-" always indicates the opposite of something. (amoral, asexual, etc.) Theism is belief in the existence of a god or gods. It takes effort to believe. Atheism does not indicate that a person necessarily believes there is no god, only that they do not believe there is one.

Agnostics believe that the existence of God is not known, and some believe that there can be no proof either that God exists or that God does not exist.

In this sense, all Agnostics are Atheists, because they do not in fact believe in God, although they don't deny it either.

I normally refer to myself as Agnostic-Atheist, because although I don't know for sure if a god or gods exist, I doubt it.

Here's a little gift for those of you who refer to yourselves as Agnostic:

Doesn't that just mean that the universe will have reverted to the singularity present prior to the so called "big bang"? It wouldn't be space and time, but it wouldn't be "nothing" as much as a reduction of existence. Eventually, won't this non-mass of reality collapse in on itself and create a new universe? Hasn't this already happened??? What if we're just the latest in a long line of creationary revisions?! Is it possible that in some other facet of a multiverse, there is an alternate keenspace messageboard where the only difference is that they put the dot UNDER the "i"?? AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Sorry, got carried away. I just read an article about how it's now a feasible theory that the universes three dimensions are actually Height, Width, and Information. Awesome stuff.
