Fun variant of the password problem

Post by Moonshadow »

Well... not really FUN per se. I didn't get the password email, which seems to be a pretty common problem, so I did the lost password utility. That also didn't come. The checkstatus form shows the site is up, and that the password matches at least something (I checked before picking it to see whether it would match anything or not). My author says we're listed now in the directory, but neither of us can log in. Since I didn't get the email I have no password activation code. I'd try requesting another but I'm fairly sure that one won't come either. I'm not filtering out mail from Keenspace because the original one (to activate the account) DID show up, so that's working fine. So... I'm at a bit of a loss. ANY help is appreciated, thanks!

(comic name is redzone, btw, if that's needed to look into this stuff)

(Also, I don't get anything but a white page on http://siteadmin2.keenspace.com/cgi-bin ... s/main.cgi)

The password test will tell you what status the password is in, if it says it's a "new password" only, then it's not activated.

If you aren't recieving the new email for the password, then your provider is filtering the email.

Sorry if I sound rude or something here, but that answer doesn't help me at ALL.

I did the password test. I covered that in the first post. That's how I know I need the activation and how I know that I didn't get it.

My provider is not filtering the email because my provider sucks and has no filters. My provider has probably never even heard of filters. So unless the password emails are coming through with strange senders and subject lines including the words VIAGRA, PENIS, HORNY, or YOU HAVE WON $X!, then it's not coming at all. I have exactly ONE email in my box from Keenspace, and it's the original account activation email. I have NOT received another, either with the original password, or with the activation code for the new password. I said as much in the first post I made.

I'll just go request a new one AGAIN but it'll probably STILL do me absolutely zero good.

Use the lost password utility.

I think I know why the second email isn't being sent. If you get the first one, the second one should be sent exactly 7 days later (to the hour)

I have already done this; at midnight last night I requested yet another new password. What should I expect as a result and why am I not getting the email? Currently it has been nine hours since I requested the new password; I have not received any new email from this site. Will I be waiting seven days for this email, or were you referring to the original password that is not being sent out and causing people to have to use the lost password utility?

(I DO appreciate the help but I really would appreciate clearer answers, as neither reply has really helped me understand why I'm having this problem.)

Unfortunately, there are many places things can go wrong.
In most cases it's the human factor, that's why when you actually have some technical difficulties finding the answer is not easy.

Oh, BTW, when did you request your site, when did you get the first e-mail, when did you try to log in, and when did you first request a new password?
You are the Non. You must go now, and never return."

"1.Scan in high res 2.tweak with curves, levels or something to clean up the scan (or use channel mixer to remove blue pencil lines) 3.Add colour using a layer set to multiply. 4.Add wordbubbles and text as vector shapes. 5. Merge all layers. 6.resize to the web size. 7. Export/Save for Web" that's all I know about webcomicking.

Man... I'm not sure I can track down all those dates. I know when my ORIGINAL request for the site was made, but it seems it got lost in a crash, and I don't have a point of reference on the second request. I got the account creation email on 16 Nov 2003. I think it was about five days later that I requested the new password (I didn't know about the seven days thing at the time). I tried to log in on the 24th and 25th (both days) as did the writer for the comic (he went through the web interfaces, I used both the web interface and ftp). I put in a second password request around midnight the 26th/27th (cst). Most of those are probably approximate within a day or two, except for the second new password request and the account creation email.

If I could have some estimate of how long to wait (like the information on waiting about a week for the email) then I could more easily sit back and work on the site, since aside from renaming files to dates, it's mostly done by now.

I don't know if any of that's useful, but there it is. Thanks for looking into it.
