Gotta feel sorry for that guy - but then...
What he did, leaving the film out of the camera, was pretty much "The Unforgivable Sin".
He might keep his job if he can convince his boss they weren't actually on the job just then, but only on a fishing trip... Kinda doubtful.
Foul-ups like that are more common in the TV business, because most TV stations no longer employ professional photographers. The reporter is handed a load of equipment, shown the "on-off" button, and sent to get the story.
Reporters aren't generally well-trained as photographers. They learn on-the-job.
TV engineers stay busy fixing the equipment.
