I work for a little non-profit organization in the computer department. Recently I convinced them to make me the Network Security Specialist. It's more fun than fixing computers, which is what I used to do there.

So while I don't make much working for a NPO, it's tons more than I ever hope to make off the comics hobby.

I'm a 2nd year physics major and struggling badly, I also "work" at the colleges computer center for about 10 hours a week (I only do about 1 or two hours of work during that time).

I'm a senior high school student - technically, I should be graduating this year, but I'm staying behind to pick up all my grade 12 science courses. Gotta love those last-minute changes of mind.

I work during the summer my local public library, [rant]listening to thirteen-year-olds giving me book reports on bloody picture books in order to "earn" dollar-store trinkets. As long as they're reading *something*, I guess...[/rant]

Wow. Of all ways of making money from webcomics... That one's probably the only one that works...

I intend for Fallen Angels Used Books to go into print sometime in the middle of next year when I finish issue #4. By then it will be summer and I can concentrate on the list of things I need to accomplish to make it happen. I am thinking of making a short run of 25 or so that I would take to Anime Iowa with me (the lobby is generally populated with webcomic artists hocking paper copies of their work) or maybe finding a comic convention somewhere in Missouri or Illinois (Chicago is a LONG drive and I'm not familiar with the city).

$175 for the first run of 25 - ~$7 per book. (Dream Weaver Press, digest sized, 128 pages)
If I could sell them for $10 each, I could pay for the run with 17 books and use the other 8 to setup for the next run if there seems to be enough demand.

In all honesty, I would expect to sell 3 books tops and take the leftovers to the next place. $10 is a LOT to ask for a book nobody knows about (especially with the artwork in pencil). $6.50 would be more reasonable but that's shooting myself in the foot. Sigh.

You CAN make money self publishing. Lots of people do it. Most of those people lived on bread and water for the first 3 - 4 years before they got enough recognition to actually sell their comics, though.

If you need a place to sell in Chicago, check them out. A really nice place. I could waste hours there. Oh wait, I have.
Anyway, I proofread children's and christian books at this book manufacturing plant. You're right. I hate both children and christians. But it's better than manual labor, and may eventually translate to a job in publishing. Which may one day mean publishing my own stuff. One can dream.

I've got a full-time job as a box office clerk for a professional live theatre company. I went through college studying to be an actor and a scriptwriter, and I never would have had time to do a webcomic in those days.
