I guess I could be considered rabid when it comes to 7, but no more so than for any other game I like. I have several favorites...it's not just one game, and I'm not about to say that everything else sucked.
But, 7 did have the best villain of the newer FFs. I mean, who knew polygons could stalk across the screen like that? The problem is that many of the ones after it just didn't have villains. 8 was the closest with the sorceresses. In 9, Kuja was petulent, but he wasn't really a
villain. 10...well, Seymore just was kind of in the way. Yu Yevon only showed up at the end...Sin wasn't really evil. Yeah.
As far as heroes, I liked Cloud (though I still wanted to smack him sometimes), Zidane (he's not angsty, he's compitent, has a sense of humor, doesn't need to be smacked...wow! Who knew?), and Tidus (a twit, but a likeable twit).
And the female leads? Yuna was the best. She was a strong female lead, but not in that "Arrr, I'm so tough because I'm an amazon warrior!" sense. She had personality, she planned, she had ideas and thoughts, and she was every bit as much the main character of FFX as Tidus was. Being a female gamer, it's really hard to find any woman in a video game that you can actually identify with. Just below her was Aeris (sniff) and Tifa. I liked them both. I just don't like how Tifa was designed. There was more too her than just bouncing, but it's often ignored. Let's see...both Dagger and Rinoa were just kinda there. I mean really, they didn't show much personality either way. Especially Dagger.
Plot. I really liked 7's plot, and I really liked 10's plot. 7 because it set the pace and was very original at the time, and 10 because it's STILL original. Yes, it's very linear, but it's also very deep. They created an entire
culture and religious system! And...well, it took some unexpected turns. 9 didn't really have much of a plot at all, and I admit that. It was just sort of there to be fun. The ending was very random. Hated 8's plot for reasons I've mentioned before this.
Chrono Trigger DID rock...although, I hear FF6 is very good. I'll just have to play it and find out. I found Chrono Cross to be far too depressing, though. Loved the music, but it seemed like you doomed someone no matter what path you took in that game.
So, yeah, how 'bout those obscenely long posts?
