Hungary is .hu -- amazon.hu is, however, the "online women's magazine -- coming soon to a computer near you." I recommend looking at it for the really cool graphic, probably commissioned from Butch... Those Hungarians. They sure do like graphics.Japan is .jp. No amazon.jp. Good idea for cybersquatters, maybe.

Guide.html" TARGET=_blank>the Japanese Transformers Cartoons Guide</A>. It appears some people are REALLY obsessed with differences in cartoons in different countries.If you've got a DVD player, a lot of cartoons and movies have alternate audio tracks for different languages.I'll probably post more here later, but the foreman just yanked the bird's tail, so I'm outta here! From my strategic geographical position, I get to see most cartoons in French. From the Jetsons, to the Simpsons, to Cow & Chicken, to Scooby-Doo, South Park, to the Powderpuff Girls, to Hong-Kong Phooey... and most of the time, they really, really, really suck dubbed. No really, they do.Trust me. There's nothing good about it.Case------------------

I once saw a Spanish version of Ducktales (the one with Donald Duck in it). Donald sounds like such a prick in Spanish.------------------

Oh, everything's been dubbed in German. My favorite was Sailor Moon in Hungarian, though. Anime in general isn't dubbed nearly as horribly by Europeans. And the Sailor Moon theme in Hungary was in French (no, I have no idea why French) and was a completely different and far better song.Star Trek in German, now there was something strange. And the Bill Cosby show, which completely sucked in German because the people voicing over didn't understand that 90% of Cosby's humor is voice tone (a component of American humor which doesn't translate.)Where you can get this stuff, I have no idea. Probably something like amazon.de? Yep. That works.

I once saw one of the Loony Toons movies dubbed in Spanish. It was a very odd experience, becuase Speedy Gonzalez was the only character that didn't have a heavy Mexican accent. (Sylvester and Spanish don't mix well.)

Mark, if you don't take cultural issues seriously, you lose what culture you have.Case, that's exactly the problem I had with the German Bill Cosby. The Bill Cosby show was a big favorite of mine, and when it was going to come to German TV, I told all my friends, "Hey, you have to see this! It's great!" And then they all asked me what I meant, it sucked, because it did.You know the routine where he's telling a child, "Come here?" It goes like, "Come here. That is there, this is here. Come here. Cooommee heeeerree." Like he's talking to a foreigner. It's hilarious if you've heard him do it either in the show or in his regular standup work.So of course the dubbed version was of some German guy saying "Come here. That is there, this is here. Come here. Come here."Umm. That's not funny. And without being American (meaning North America, of course) you'd never know why it could be funny.And yeah, Les Super Nanas doesn't really work for the Powderpuff Girls. But rack that up against the really completely shitty dubbing jobs that they do on anime. The mainstream perception that animated cartoons are for kids and thus not worthy of respect (or the slightest investment) is the problem.OK, done ranting now. I'm going to get some work done if you people don't mind.

OK, not quite done with this thread, I guess. Just wanted to mention the excellent Hungarian dubbing of a Japanese rendition of Grimm's Fairy Tales. About fifteen minutes each and they're the original Grimm's Fairy Tales, which, if any of you have ever read a non-American version, are grim indeed. Real magic. My daughter and I loved'em -- it was last Christmastime, the weather really sucked outside (no car in Hungary plus lots of very wet snow equals one great sledding trip to the hills plus a lot of days staying hidden indoors.) We watched it every day. She didn't want to watch them alone (too scary for a then-five-year-old) so I was reluctantly forced to watch.

So see, Boxjam? I can keep a thread sort of on-topic.

The Simpsons voice-overing is hilarious and is just as entertaining as the original stuff.
