Hello All,
Since my keenspace site is down, I've set up a temporary home with Netfirms using Movable type.
I also changed the design of the web pages... I'm still just getting used to css... so I'm having a hard time getting it to look exactly the way I'd like, but I think it's getting close. Does anyone want to take a peek at the new site design and offer any suggestions/ comments?

Thanks in advance!
Skeane!
Critique my site design.

Well, one small thing with the link to the site: it s/b http://404comics.netfirms.com/ without the "i" between the t and the f.
The design looks simple and clean which I like. The color combinations were attractive. I like your drawing style too, it's got a nifty "cartoony" edge to it.

*Shrugs*
As you well know it's a lot better than many other websites out there but since you're asking for critique here, that's what you'll get from me.
A lot of blank everywhere; you could have easily made it more compressed thus more efficient looking. Too many freakin' black borders. Erm... I wouldn't use i-frames for your log because that ad looks pretty horrible and you'll need another two link buttons on that row before it looks right. I would recommend you use the larger button TWC offers:

It would look better in the place you're putting it, and of course because of it's size it will catch the eye faster. Last but not least, you might want to make the font size of the links at the top of the page larger.
Hope I'm not being too harsh. I dig the comic and like the colors you used in the web-design! 8)

Thank you!
Thanks for the comments; I squished the site down by getting rid of some horizontal empty space, enlarged the banner, as well as the font-size on the links. I think this helps out quite a bit.
I've decided to keep the iframe; I'm thinking about setting up a bigger site over time, and I'm likely to get rid of the banners by moving to a premium site.
When you mentioned that I'd need another 2 links, what section of the page were you talking about? The blog, the header or the footer?

Yep, I see some definite improvement! ^_^ Glad to see (some of) my advice was useful to you.skeane wrote:Thanks for the comments; I squished the site down by getting rid of some horizontal empty space, enlarged the banner, as well as the font-size on the links. I think this helps out quite a bit.
I should have stated my reasons for disliking the iframe; here they are anyway:skeane wrote:I've decided to keep the iframe; I'm thinking about setting up a bigger site over time, and I'm likely to get rid of the banners by moving to a premium site.
- More and more, browsers aren't supporting iframes (due to all the online cheating going on with them and the unreliability of their code among other things I believe). Therefor many people using various newer types of browser won't be able to view your blog.
- This particular blog i-frame doesn't look too sharp or match the rest of the webdesign.
If you decide to keep it anyway, I would recommend specifying the style of it a bit so it looks like it belongs in the color scheme the rest of the page has.
I meant the links to other comics at the bottom. I'm sure you could pick another two buttons to put down there and complete the row with. But now that you've made the Online Comics banner + the TWC button the same lengh as the row of links to other comics it doesn't bother me anymore, really. Good work!skeane wrote:When you mentioned that I'd need another 2 links, what section of the page were you talking about? The blog, the header or the footer?
ahhhh....
ooh! thanks for that tip.
I changed the site to remove the iframe and host both the comic and the blog on the same page. This also gets rid of the second banner ad (which I'm happy about) but also lengthen's the page too (not as happy about).
I'm still getting used to the css. Once I've got a bit further there, I'll take a look to see how I can archive the info a bit to get what I'm looking for.
