Paying for advertising

Post by Krazy Krow »

I'm taking the plunge, that 100,000 adviews banner has been tempting me too long. I've had great response from the Top 99 list, and that was only 10,000 or so views. $100 isn't that bad a price really, I've spent that much on a weekend of sushi and Asahi Super Dry before.

I'll post the results here for anyone who's curious. Hopefully the admins will get back to me soon.

Hoowa. Good luck! I've been considering some cheap advertising, but...well, even that is a little beyond my means.

This would be better if they had a lower level option available. 100 bucks is a lot.

Do you know if they can split it among multiple banners? Then maybe a group of us could split the costs.

Unfortunately, it looks like $100 is the minimum increment you can buy. Their advertising page seems to be geared towards big sponsorship ($25,000+)

Animated banners are OK, so you could advertist multiple comics, but it would only link to one site.

One time deal, I certainly can't afford $100 a month :)

I hope they space the adviews apart tho, it would suck to blow all 100,000 adviews in 3 hours.

I may do it after the holidays, but it is a big investment for comic that isn't making me any dough. :D

I can't imagine paying for advertising just yet. I'm still viewing Hotel Grim as practice...

Another possibility is 8-bit Theatre, it's $35 for a week of ads. Possibly the better value, but it's only good if your comic appeals to readers of 8-bit.

I think that Fark has some reasonable advertising rates.

But I can have sex with a drugged Panda and get on Fark for free!

But those look like pretty good rates, actually. 190,000 adviews for $100.. but Keenspace is probably better targeted towards comic readers. I'll see how soon Keenspace gets back to me. I sent an e-mail on Monday, if I don't get a response this next Monday, I'll start swabbing bamboo with ether.

It's done. Starting Friday, you should see my banner with Keenspot comics.
<img src="http://krakow.keenspace.com/pics/krakow_banner_big2.gif">

Keenspace might be a better choice, but Keenspot permits extra large banners so I tried that first.

It took longer than I thought it would to put the insertion order in. I won't complain about turnaround time personally, but I hope they're a bit quicker with the $25,000 sponsorship.

Is it just me, or did 8 Bit Theater just multiply it's prices by 10? It now seems to be $350.

The ad first started running today, and results look good so far. Keenspot claims a 1-10% click through rate, which should translate to 30 to 300 extra visits a day. It's only halfway through the day, and I have about 100 more visits than I usually do at this time. Of course, the real trick is turning those visitors into regular readers. In that regard, Keenspot is probably the best target market.

MixedMyth: I saw that. It used to be $35 per week, or $120 per month. So his rate has merely increased 3 fold, not 10. That takes it out of my price range, but I suppose he has to pay for bandwidth somehow.
