Comics That Suck!

Post by Slayerx9999 »

Does your comic suck?
I'll be the first to admit that mine does suck.

All people with sucky comics unite, make your voice heard!
If you're not sure whether your comic sucks or not use these helpful hints:

1.You have terrible artwork(bonus if you draw with a mouse)

2.The subject is such that no one sane would want to hear about it.

3.You write in strange code talk ie: cout<<"hey man"<<endl;

4.No single comic strip is self contained.

5.Your characters don't have names.

my sucky comic is Vampires and Cannibals at:
vannibals.keenspace.com

post yours today![/url]

I was nearly going to post my comic...

But then I read that little comic of yours. And if that's the definition of Suck then god damn I wish I sucked that bad...

concerning suckiness and such.

Yeah, I don't think your comic even fits the specifications for suckiness as you have layed forth. Well, maybe No. 1.. :)

Noggin: Nice site design. Looks purty.

I didn't find the artwork that bad myself. I actually quite liked it, somehow it speaks of someone who can draw like a god but is drawing really badly on purpose... But then I looked a bit harder and thought against it ^.^

"Noggin: Nice site design. Looks purty."

Oh, GaH! NooOoOO! You visited my comic! You BARsTUARD! - no, you BasTARD! - God damnit! BASTArD! Oh for gods sake this Shift key sucks...

And why does that comment always remind of this foresaid occurence; Commenting on a fat ugly chick about her looks;
"ermm, she has a nice personality..."

I really really dislike my comic being visited... And I really really really dislike anyone actually commenting on it... It sucks! I know that already! Sheese, you don't have to rub it in...

I guess you'll have to make a new definition for my comic. I know it sucks, but it doesn't exactly fit into any of those... Except maybe number 1...

In most cases saying the site design is good IS in fact comparable to the example you just gave. But in your case it's very geniune, my dear Lag. Pick someone from these forums at random. Anyone. I'm willing to bet not one person here would not be damn proud to have a site that looked as sharp as yours.

Is your comic good? Hell yeah. But the way you present it is very impressive too. So you get compliments on the site. Deal with it

Buut, ehhh, I always feel that whenever someone says "Your site looks nice" that they're trying to steer away from the subject matter at hand. It's a comic dagnabit! Admitedly I've got it all a little spoogy looking on the website and it might distract and all but that's just proffesionalism, hey, it's a job!
But ultimetly it's a comic... That's the thing that has any meaning to me. So when someone comments on the site I always assume they don't like the comic...

Hummm... wow... Typing inane thoughts from your head can make things into sense. Cool....

"Is your comic good? Hell yeah."
*sniff* Aww dude, that's the first comment I've had about my actual comic in a year! I love you man!

But I still say my comic sucks ^.^

The fact is, there are a lot more good webcomics than webcomics with strong site designs. So people may take notice of it more, even if they think your comic is good, too.

Whew, you realize that was my first official post here, and look at the freakin' response! Ho! Me man, I was commenting that it looked nice because I don't like to sound all weird and pervy going "Awesome Man!" I was speaking of the complete package. Sure, the comic itself is the main thing, but having an attractive frame enhances that experience, (uh, heh, sort of like women, you know? :-? )

I looked at your comic, because I understand how difficult it can be to get critism. Even though this is gonna be short.

Hotel Grim is a bit odd for my tastes. The art is alright and just a tad hard to follow. The humor and jokes are a bit un-understandable. They seem like things you'd get. I like the premise, though. I'm sure you've got yourself a good thing going on here.

I'm browsing thru it right now and I agree with some of the before mentioned things such as possible jokes that you are persons close to you would get, but maybe not others who aren't familiar with the humor. But some of it I do get, and I like your style. The drunk pirates at the bar strip was really funny! Just for the line "Nobody wants me booty" sulking in the background!

So basically the jokes are inaccessible but the art is passable? Hmmm... I think I can live with that. Humor as all things are in the eye of the beholder. Out of it all, just one question... Unfan, can you tell me how the art is hard to follow so that I can try to change that?

It only, sometimes, makes it hard to figure out what exactly what you're drawing. Occasionally.

I'm really bad at reviewing.

That's sort of what I get a lot - the art is bad but the jokes are alright. Which is fine by me, doing good art takes a lot of effort.

I read your comic and what impressed me most wasn't the writing or the art, but the characters themselves. Especially that two headed bunny thing. :P The humor in some of the strips is just not understandable, and in others it's not universal. I would recommend reading a lot of other gag comics (if you don't already) and picking up on what kind of jokes are universal (without copying gags) and what kind of jokes could easily be made universal with some edit work. Yeah, that's about it.

Of course it does! I says so in the title for crying out loud! (heh! heh!)
Actually it doesn't suck to me and that's all that really matters. Actually what does suck is I've completely changed my drawing style but have a backlog of the old style just waiting to be uploaded. I want to post my new stuff up now! Dang plotlines....

Who knew I didn't suck?

Post by ZOMBIE USER 11784 »

Just a thought, no matter how good or horrible you think your drawing is, there's always at least one a rung below it and at least one a rung above it.

Just some words of wisdom.

1. Yes, I draw horribly, but I draw with a friggin pencil. No mouse!
2. There's some good subject matter, it's not appropriate for newspaper, but it sticks to that format
3. No, why would I?
4. Self-Contained? Whazat?
5. All of my characters for the time being have names, sorry

Chaos, Disorder, Paranoia... Our work is done here.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I think I realized why everyone has trouble with the jokes though. There's not always a joke, sometimes it's just an observation. Sometimes just a view of despair. Sometime's that's funny, sometimes it's not. What I've never stated in the strip itself is that the Hotel is purgatory. And well, that's just not always funny.

I'm not going for a standard gag-a-day comic. I think any monkey can do that. I'm trying for something that's a bit outside the norm while still being funny enough to keep people coming back.

Given that, how do you think it's going?
