Pretty sure they're from Dr. Who, and the droids were Daleks, but I never got to see that particular episode.

They could have as easily gone with Captain Pike, though.

I can't say I recall this particualr episode either. Davros first appeared in Genesis of the Daleks where he was a real badass, but he became a pussy in his later appearances. I'd say this is right before Syvaster McCoy shows up to show Davros and Steve who's the Doctor in the house.
