Jackie has on a Stitch tee shirt! Cool!
I want to go check out that movie. According to one of my friends, that movie's going to be the "Schizit", whatever that means...

Yeah, the only reason Jackie gets a Stitch shirt is because she's fictional--as are all adult Disney clothes. Joey and I were informed by the nice lady at the Disney Store that the Big D just doesn't send them any adult clothes unless the clothes feature the classic characters (Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc) or POOH. I dunno about you guys, but POOH is something I flush.

So unless you're built like Joey and can fit a boys' XL (barely), you're outta luck, though there are some decent products out there, including numerous Stitch figures that spit goo, a little bobbing dashboard hula Lilo, a stuffed Elvis Stitch and (of course) beach towels! Joey bought me Lilo's nasty looking green doll, Scrump. It looks like something out of Nightmare Before Christmas.

From what I understand Lilo & Stitch is gonna be the best Disney film (ever?) in a long long time, mostly because Chris Sanders & Co set out to break every Disney convention. They were still roped into a few, but overall they got away with quite a bit: nobody breaks into song, though Big D bought the rights to a bunch of Elvis tunes (Lilo is an Elvis fan); Lilo and her sister Nani bicker, argue and are pestered by Social Services because both their parents are dead and the two of them aren't a "healthy" family and Stitch has been bred for pure destruction. yay!

That said, we adults need some cool L&S clothes to wear! I know Disney people CONSTANTLY browse this forum ( ), so how bout it, guys?

Joey and I will be standing in line next Friday.

I really liked the early early trailers for Lilo and Stich.

Stich ending up in the other disney movies, screwing things up. :)

Especially the Lion King one.

'Hey! That ain't Simba!' And everyone screams and runs in terror, leaving Stich to do his little roar ^^

Then there's the LIttle Mermaid one that he crashes...'Hey! I'm singing here!'

Hehe

I've gotta find a videos of those commercials.

I may actually go and see that one. Disney is my arch nemesis..is...ese....whatever...'cause of those damn songs and 'Make everything perfect!' morals and whatnot.

Of course, their tendancy to add useless, joke characters doesn't help matters. Miko in Pochahantas was cute, but....Then there was that eddie murphy dragon in Mulan....

Timon and Pumbaa in Lion King...Sepastian in LIttle Mermaid...

They even added a freakin' TALKING CAR to Inspector Gadget!

This may be the first disney flick in a long while that I'm actually at all interested in for something besides the animals (I'm a cat fan. That's why I saw Lion King), and boobies (Little Mermaid, WHOO!)

I'm not counting the Hayao Miyazaki flicks Disney's got the rights to bring over, 'cause they're just dubbing it. Princess Mononoke was okay, but I prefer Kiki's Delivery Service, 'cause Kiki's adorable.

Check the tiny little plug for L&S on the JF main page, underneath the Sam image and stuff; I've got a link to the Rotten Tomatoes site where you can download all three parody trailers and the full sized "One in every family" trailer (25MB, but well worth it).

My new favorite is the Aladdin one. :)

Okay, I'm definitely going to see this.

Mmm. I'm fed up with Disney for multiple reasons.

1. They're a major supporter of the draconian copyright protection act that would make it illegal, if you live in the US, to code software that didn't have tons of copyright violation preventions, to download software from other countries, to buy software from other countries, to buy media playing hardware of any kind from other countries... basically, anything that didn't have a ton of government-approved "spyware" in it.

2. I'm really sick of the ethnic stereotypes that appear in every single one of their movies. Some movies it's not too bad, but there's always at least one. Jafar is the stereotype Arabian in Aladdin (compounded because he's the really really evil one), you've got the accountant guy in Mulan (again portrayed in a pretty negative light), and the list just goes on, until we get to Lilo and Stitch, where of course all Hawaiins apparently surf and have noses that take up a fourth of their face. (Not to mention the fact that that quaint stereotype "little house on the beach" the family lives in is a million dollar home out there in the real world.) I'm honestly not that PC, but the more I think about this trend, the more it bugs me.

(And really... while Disney's commercials, which are usually VERY well done, make Lilo and Stitch look good, if you just take it on the clips alone, what do you really get? A blue Alf in the tropics. And what the hell does "So, you're from outer space? I hear the waves are really gnarly out there" MEAN?! It doesn't make any SENSE! What waves in space?! Who told him this?! WHAT?! Er, ahem.)

3. Disney World hosting an anime convention and Disney, when some parents complained about the presence of hentai, rather than contacting the vendors and telling them to put it away or cover it up, and even rather than just making a loudspeaker announcement to tell them to do it, instead calling in the cops to have them break up the convention. Classy.

1. Any company that big supports a strict protection of the right to scoop as much business their way as possible. Check a few other names supporting that bill (which is ridiculous, I'll agree).

2. Disney always always ALWAYS works very closely with the watchdog groups representing these ethnic groups. It's part of their attempt to be squeaky clean and not offend anybody. But you know, you're gonna offend someone no matter what you do. Hawaii is insanely happy to have L&S to call their own. You are not Hawaii. As for Aladdin, Mulan, etc, how can you have the bad guy be white when these stories take place in Arabia or China? If you forget, the good guys were all pretty darn ethnic as well.

3. Get a copy of the vendor contract for that convention. Did it specify no hentai? I'll bet it did (once again to protect its squeaky clean image). Besides, how much brainpower does one have to bring porn into DisneyWorld?

If you don't like Disney, then don't read the Disney-related threads. I don't visit your site and rail on about hentai.

Now. On with the thread.

1. That doesn't mean I should just ignore it.

2. I didn't say the bad guys should be white, but it seems odd that the most stereotypical ethnic person in the film is a negative role.

3. Do you have a copy? Then don't assume it said anything about it.

Finally, I don't think I'll read the forums at all anymore, so that I can preserve my enjoyment of Jackie's Fridge without its creator's manner ruining it for me.

Odd, I didn't see Jafar as an arabian, I saw him as simply a mean sonuvabitch. If anything, he seemed more british than anything.

Plus, you're forgetting Pocahantas. The bad guy WAS white. Sure, the good guy was too, but still.

Hunchback the bad guys were white....

If anything, I'd say it's against europeans than anyone else.

Besides, aren't all of the really really bad guys often stereotypes of one sort or another? They're either power-mad, incredibly greedy, filled with hatred for something or somebody else, , out for vengance, or misguided. There's seldom any bad guys in disney flicks...or anywhere else for that matter...where the bad guys are simply EVIL.

I mean, when's the last time you saw somebody on the news, or TV, or whatnot, where the bad guy does bad things simply for the *fun* of it? THAT I feel, is evil.

Anyhow.....if you see the ads, Lilo and her sister seem to live in a run down shack that doesn't look TOO near a beach.

And in the ads, he says 'I hear the surfing's choice'. And you know ads, they take lines and stitch them together however they want anyhow.

And it wasn't AT Disney world. It was at a disney owned hotel off of the airport. They weren't, from what I recall, forbidden to have hentai stuff out on the tables, but they were urged to keep it somewhat hidden...common sense, you know? They definitely didn't follow the common sense rule of 'Don't put porn out where little kids can flip through it', but it's also true that the management didn't ask the offending people to put them away. HOWEVER! I don't think it was the hotel that called the police to break it up. I believe it was one or more of the complaining guests who did it. If I recall, there was a mormon baseball team there or something at the same time as the convention.

Score one for BJ, tyrannical uberlord.

Thanks, KendraK. I'd also like to add that I think Gaston from Beauty and the Beast was one of the better Disney villains, because he started out as laughably arrogant but pretty and ended up pretty darn evil...and still pretty. And he was able to get away with being a pig because he's handsome. There's a lot of truth in that, sadly, and I think he was one of the truly evil characters just based on that subtle shift throughout the movie.

As to Disney: yeah, the stuff they're doing to extend the length of time you can keep material under copyright annoys me. I think it's hypocritical of them to go and use other creator's work for their films, while ensuring no one else can do the same with their creations.

As to Jafar: He's a Vizier. Viziers are evil. It's in the standard ad. Wanted: Evil, manipulative bastard to be royal vizier. Reasonable pay, excellent opportunities for advancement. Must have own Van-Dyke devil beard.

As to BJ, Evil Overlord of the Forum: Bah. I regular demand that my forum-goers dance for my amusement. Dance I say! Of course, the only people who visit my forum are Appendix Q, Rosencrantz, and Shannon, and they mostly just ignore me, but my point remains!

Shannon found out I've been slacking on reading yours and several other comics, and promptly beat me with a bunch of grapes. He then ate the grapes (without even offering me any) and told me I had better catch up or next time the beating will be so severe he'll have wine afterward.

So I'm gonna be reading stuff this weekend.

Exactly right about the vizer!

Cohen the Barbarian's rule: Never trust the Grand Vizer! :)

It's just one of those things. They're ALWAYS evil. Evil or completely incompetent. Or both. But 98% of the time, they're evil.

Accountants are also often varrying shades of evil.

Of course the Grand Vizier is evil! A Grand Vizier is what you get when you put a lawyer in charge of writing the laws. Well, that and laws that apply to everyone but the Grand Vizier...

If you put multiple lawyers in charge of writing laws, you get Congress, which is a different breed of evil...

No, he's just like the folks in Congress. Except he doesn't play well with others.
