FTP newbie in need of help

After having my mind totally numbed by the tagtorial,it took me a little while to figure this all out. But I think I get most of it. not a problem.
So tonight I learned a little HTML, and learned enough to build a rinky-dink little text-only page to put up for now. But now I can't seem to get into the FTP site. It's probably something wrong on my end (for the time being, I'm stuck using AOL and I.E. at my parents' house)
Internet Explorer says "a connection with the server could not be established." I downloaded FTP Explorer, which only lets me sign in as a guest (if I'm reading this right...)which is totally f**king useless. basically, I'm just defeated. Mind you, I hate asking anyone for help But, I am without a choice.
Any insight anyone could provide would be helpful.Thanks.<P>------------------

Similar problem here. I log in using ws_ftp pro and it says that my connection is refused(ah!). I didn't change any info, either. HEEEELP!<P>------------------

I read the tutorial at boxjam's site before I tried anything. the problem is that internet explorer's ftp doesn't seem to want to connect. at all. i get the white screen, but i get an error message. same message comes up when i try to login.<P>------------------

Well, I still can't get in, but I'll just wait until my computer has it's internet acess up and running. I think my problem was with the family computer I was trying to use.<P>------------------

Boxjam's tututorial will work great. If you are connected to the net and using a local server or a big corporate one, you may need to look in your internet settings and make sure there isn't some sort of FTP off selection somewhere. - SOmeone told me that was the case with AOL automatically reconfiguring their browser settings.<P>------------------

I just don't get this shit. It's started working now. I just went to my FTP site for the hell of it, on a hunch, and it loads no problem. I thought my car was the only thing I owned that was capable of fixing itself.<P>Huh.<P>------------------
